Cross-cultural communication is the communication and cultural interaction between people of different cultural backgrounds.[3]It is an important part of human communication activities.Through cross-cultural communication activities,it meets exchanges and interaction between nations,between ethnic groups,between individuals,it maintains the dynamic balance of social structure,and promotes the developments and changes of human cultures.Hmong(Miao)is a cross-border ethnic minority.Due to historical reasons,Hmong originated in China scattered around the world,their footprints went throughout Asia,America,Europe and Australia.Today,the United States has more than 200,000 Hmong population.[4]Although the Hmong people went to America as war refugees,now they have already made significant progresses in politics,economics,cultures etc,.In the process of integration into the American society,they also continue to develop their own culture and tradition.In the new media era,they built some network communication platforms,such as Hmong Times Online and The Hmong Journal,and other various private communication organizations.However,their cross-cultural communication process encountered some obstacles,these kind of barriers not only come from the limitations of their own community media,but also come from outside impacts such as cultural hegemony and so forth.In the face of cultural conflicts and cultural adaptation issues,the establishment of an efficient external channels to show and spread their own cultures,and to build a bridge with the outside world is particularly important.In the context of globalization,if a nationality wants to show its image and spread its own information,it must use the power of new media to expand its influence.At present,Hmong America has been in the new media platform to establish their own channels of communication.What are the characteristics of their new media communicationthe?What are the dilemmas and shortcomings in the process? How to use new media to overcome the difficulties of cross-cultural communication with its interactive,efficient,open and other advantages is a problem worth thinking about for Hmong Americans.This article is a study on cross-cultural communication of Hmong Americans in the context of new media.It can be divided into the following sections:The first part is the introduction,it elaborates the research background,the research significance,the status review and evaluation for domestic and international research,the research purpose and research methods,the research focuses and difficulties.The second part is mainly on the Hmong Americans,the definition of the Hmong peoples,the description of their migration history,and finally the introduction to Hmong Americans from the historical background,the population distribution,and the living situation in America.The third part introduces the theory of cross-cultural communication and new media,strengthens the necessity of cross-cultural communication for Hmong America,introduces the development of its cross-cultural medias,and discusses the advantages of new media in cross-cultural communication.The fourth part discusses the general situations and shortcomings of Hmong Americans' cross-cultural communication in the context of new media,and explores the internal and external factors that cause the dilemma.The fifth part puts forward the strategies of solving the problems and improving the effect of cross-cultural communication from the perspective of new media on the basis of the analysis of the general cross-cultural communication for Hmong American.The content of this paper is not only for the cross-cultural communication for Hmong Americas,but also hope to provide some help to the study of ethnic minority communication.
