Objective:Migraine occurs at any age stage.Due to its complex etiology, the long course, intermittent headache attacks and its refractory character, the disease has an impact on the daily life and the work of patients.Acupuncture is a safe and reliable treatment for migraine and has been recommended by the world health organization(WHO)for migraine treatment. It’s thought-provoking that some articles published in the international authoritative journals have reported that the efficacy of placebo acupuncture and traditional acupuncture has no obvious difference in rencent years. In this experiment,we compared the efficacy of traditional acupuncture with that of placebo acupuncture.Through that,we evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture on the prevention and the treatment of migraine, and clarify the specific therapeutic effect of acupuncture.Methods:40 patients of migraine who match the diagnose standards were randomized into the traditional acupuncture group(20 patients)and the placebo acupuncture group(20 patients).1.traditional acupuncture groupThe main acupoints are He Gu(bilateral)、Tai Chong(bilateral)、Tai Yang(unilateral)、Shuai Gu(unilateral)、Feng Chi(unilateral). We selectet adjunct acupoints based on syndrome differentiation:Selecting Tou Wei for Yangming headache;slecting Tianzhu for Tai Yang headache;selecting Baihui for Jue Yin headache.Participants in both groups received treatment for 6 weeks,3 times a week.3 weeks are a course of treatment.A total of 2 courses of treatment were included. The treatment had been stopped for 1 week after the first treatment course finished.2.placebo acupuncture group To avoid acupoints and meridians,we choosed 8 stimulus points on the shoulder and back:The midpoint of the Jian Jin and Ju Gu,the 7th,8th,and 9th points of the thoracic spine open 5 inches). The treatment course was the same as that of the traditional acupuncture group.Results:1.Compared with the pre-treatment scores, the VAS of patients were decreased after the treatment in both two groups. But the VAS scores of the traditional acupuncture group had a significantly greater reduction than that of the placebo acupuncture group(p<0.05).2.Compared with the baseline, the Headache symptom scores of patients were both decreased after the treatment in two groups. But the Headache symptom scores of the traditional acupuncture group showed a significantly greater reduction than that of the placebo acupuncture group(p<0.05).3.Compared with the baseline, the MIDAS of patients were both decreased after the treatment in two groups. And the traditional acupuncture group showed a better improvement than that of placebo acupuncture group(p<0.05).4.Compared with the baseline, the MSQ of patients were both significantly decreased after the treatment in two groups. And the traditional acupuncture group showed a better improvement than that of placebo acupuncture group(p<0.05).Conclusion:The clinical trial showed that both treatments can relieve headache in different degrees, improve the quality of life, and reduce the MIDAS score. But traditional acupuncture is superior to placebo acupuncture in relieving the symptoms of migraine.
