Objectives:To observe the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture combined with medicine in treating Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease(GERD)and discuss its mechanism of action.Methods:60 patients with GERD were randomly divided into group of acupuncture combined with medicine and western medicine group with 30 cases in each. The treatment group received Du-meridian conductive air acupuncture combined with Rabeprazole Sodium enteric capsule, while the western medicine group merely received Rabeprazole Sodium enteric capsule.Patients in western medicine group took 20mg Rabeprazole Sodium enteric capsule everyday before breakfast. The acupoints in group of acupuncture combined with medicine:Du-meridian positive reaction(T1-L1),Dazhui point and Baihui acupoint with 30min needle retaining each time and once in every two days;western medicine group received western medicine. The treatment lasted for 6 weeks and the observation period lasted for 8 weeks with taking RDQ,GerdQ,SAS,SDS and HRQL scales as the observation indexes. The falling range of RDQ integral was taken as evaluation index of curative effect to compare the clinical effect before and after treatment, between and within groups.Result:1.After the treatment, the RDQ,GerdQ,SAS,SDS and HRQL integrals of patients in two groups lowered with significant difference(P<0.05),which indicated that both of the two groups took effect in treating GERD;the scale grade of group of acupuncture combined with medicine was obviously lower than that of western medicine group(P<0.05),which indicated a superior effect in group of acupuncture combined with medicine.2.After treatment, the total effective rates of group of acupuncture combined with medicine and western medicine group respectively were 93.33%and 46.67%,P<0.05 with statistical difference;the total effective rate in group of acupuncture combined with medicine was higher than that of western medicine group. Conclusion:The curative effect of acupuncture combined with medicine is practical in treating GERD,which is superior to the simple western medicine treatment.Except for improving GERD patients’ clinical symptoms such as acid regurgitation, heart burn,non-cardiogenic chest pain and reflux, acupuncture combined with medicine also plays significant effect in improving patients’ anxiety, depressive state and life quality. Therefore, this method can substitute western medicine, compensate for the deficiencies of western medicine and even act as a therapy enhancing the effect.
