Study Of PDCA Cycle Theory In Outpatient Parmacy Management

Objective: To strengthen the daily management of the outpatient pharmacy,improve the work quality of the outpatient pharmacy continuously,achieve a safe,efficient and economical medication principle,promote rational drug use,thus guarantee patient’s safety,requirements were made by the "Grade Ш general hospital accreditation standards implementation rules(Pharmacy)".Methods: PDCA cycle was used in the outpatient pharmacy dispensing error,medication counseling,prescription quality improvement and essential drugs management.Each work was carried with two cycles.Comparement were made before and after PDCA manangement in dispensing error rate,average cases of medication consultation daily,eligible prescription rate,ineligible prescriptions percentage,essential drugs amount and hormone basic drugs usage.Data were analyzed with SPSS18.0 statistical software by t-test,the level of statistically significance was set at p ≤ 0.05.Results : The dispensing error rate was 0.79‰ before PDCA management,which was reduced to 0.02‰ after PDCA;Monthly average cases of medication consultation increased from 54 to170 after continuous improvement;The qualified rate of prescription increased from 90.99% to 98.23% after PDCA management,the percentage of the four types of irrational prescription including the use of ambiguous words,the absence of clinical diagnosis,the unappropriate usage and dosage,and the unsuitable combination decreased from 2.11%,2.28%,1.88%,1.02% to 0.38%,0.33%,0.20%,0.22% respectively;the proportion of essential drugs increased from 14.7% to 22.9%,the amount of hormone drugs increased from 3.29% to 9.79% and utilization rate increased from 75.37% to 85.26%.Conclusion: Significant achievements were made in the control of dispensing error rate,the normalization of outpatient drug consultation,the quality of prescription,the priority and rational use of essential medicines after PDCA cycle was used in hospital outpatient pharmacy.All these achievements indicate that the PDCA cycle management can be used in the hospital outpatient pharmacy management,which can provide a new insight in improving the quality of outpatient pharmacy work,and offering a safe,reasonable,effective and economic medication for the patients.
