Object: The in-service training condition,training evaluation and training needs of country doctors at village clinics in Xinjiang region in recent three years were investigated and analyzed to find out problems in training and propose countermeasures and suggestions with the aim of providing the basis for the government to formulate country doctor educational policy and thus proceed the training of country doctors better.Methods: Eight hundred and ten country doctors sampled from south Xinjiang,north Xinjiang and east Xinjiang were investigated quantitatively by questionnaires and qualitatively by interviews.SPSS19.0 was used to analyze quantitative data.Results: 1.The respondents were mostly 25 to 39 years old with periods of acting as a doctor ranged from 3 to 10 years predominantly.Most of them graduated from clinic and nursing specialty of nursing schools and 79.85% have country doctor certificates.The pattern of acting as a doctor was principally full-time country doctor 2.There is a certain distance between the training of rural doctors and the national requirements.Among country doctors,98.87% were trained by conferences where centralized lessons on clinical basis and public health knowledge were given them to replace training.These conferences were planned uniformly by Health Administrative Departments of provincial level,planned and organized by Health Administrative Departments of country level and concentrated in health clinics in towns and townships with the average frequency of four or five times a year,the accumulated time distribution of two weeks to one month and the major object of improving the capacity of clinical diagnosis and treatment as well as prevention and healthcare,The current situation of training in different regions is not balanced.3.Country doctors felt certain improvement in medicine theory and diagnosis levels as well as treating capacity after training;Country doctors complaint about the training that the time was short,the contents were various but lacked of highlights,the management was not reasonable enough;They believed that training was mainly influenced by factors such as training time arrangement,cost effectiveness,training content and training location.4.Most country doctors hoped to take centralized trainings of clinical basis and public health knowledge which were held in health services of country level,with the frequency of four to six times a year,the accumulated time distribution of more than one month,and the pattern of using conferences to replace training and off-service clinical advanced studies.5.The current situation and needs of training time,location,contents and fees were still significantly different and the training quality was still to be improve.Conclusions: Training on country doctors should be demand-oriented,take the practical characteristics of all regions into combined consideration,adjust measures to local conditions,offer different guidance to different categories,and teach them in accordance with their aptitudes and demands.In addition,perfect capital guarantee system should be constructed,in-service training verification system should be optimized,and training schemes that are suitable for country doctors in Xinjiang should be formulated.Meanwhile,talent attracting policy in village clinics should be increased,so as to guarantee the in-service training effects of country doctors and to keep improving village medical and health service level.
