China’s private medical industry originated in the 1980 s, has achieved great development surrounded by the absolute monopoly public hospital market. China private medical industry injected fresh blood into our medical industry, and has become an organic component of the national health care system. It has, to some certain extent, alleviated the situation of poor access to and high cost of medical care.In spite of the great progress made by Chinese private medical industry, we need to be aware that the private health hospitalsare still less advantageous compared with public hospitals in terms of social influence. There are many reasons for this, some rooting in the private health care industry itself, others in the absence of governmental planning and construction of the public health service and relevant supporting measures.Aier Eye Hospital is currently the largest eye care group in our country, and has become the role model of China’s private medical industry after ten years of rapid development. With the ongoing and deepening medical reform, sticking to its unique hierarchical chain business model, Aier Eye hospital is launching an aggressive expansion and has become the leading group of Chinese ophthalmology medical industry.This thesis employs the PEST method and Porter’s five forces model to analysis and research the macro environment and industrial environment of the ophthalmic medical industry. This paper then uses SWOT method to elaborate the advantages, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Aier Eye Hospital, deducing the SWOT model matrix fit for Aier Eye Hospital, and concludes the appropriate expansion strategies. It also gives suggestions for the strategy implementation.Through the study of Aier Eye Hospital, the paper wishes to provide some useful insightto its sustainable development and necessary theoretical support of our country’s booming private medical institutions.
