In recent years, with the gradual mature of computer science, concepts like digital earth, digital city, and virtual reality, are proposed in succession. As a foundation of these concepts,geo-spatial information acquisition is playing a more and more important role in social and economical development.Airborne three dimensional laser scanning technology is a newly born geo-spatial information collection method, which can translate three-dimensional information in real world into digital signals that can be understood by computers. It has advantages such as high accuracy,non-contact,and fast in speed, and is important to digital development of society. At present, some existing airborne laser scanning systems can already achieve high quality and accurate point cloud collection. However, most of them are limited in data collection and lacks of processing and display modules, which can only rely on extra business software to achieve,Apart from this, these systems usually are heavy and expensive which makes them not qualified for popularization.Considering these drawbacks,a serious of research is carried out in this paper on airborne three dimensional laser scanning technology that is suitable for common usages and an UAV carried line laser three dimensional scanning and display system is proposed. The system is capable of data collection, data pre-processing,and three-dimensional visualization at a low cost with easy operations. This paper mainly contributes in:Firstly,For the data collection module,a system based on trigonometry of tilt line laser is proposed with both software design and hardware implementation.Firstly, collected image data will be sent to the ground using wireless figure transmission. Then the point cloud will be processed and st ored with the designed LabVIEW program, thus achieving fast and low cost spatial three-dimensional information acquisition.Secondly,As for the data display module,a point cloud pre-processing method is proposed in this paper and a three dimensional visualization interface is designed. The former one including threshold filtering based on Lab VIEW,data mosaic, and format transmission based on both Lab VIEW and C program. The three-dimensional visualization interface design mainly includes development platf orm selection, development environment construction, and interface function implementation. Its functions are point cloud I/O,display,filtering,and rebuild.Point cloud three-dimensional display is achieved by the combination of data pre-processing module and point cloud display module. Finally,To test the built system, experiments are carried out in school parking using vehicles as scanned objects.Object point cloud collected by the system are sent to the designed visualization interface after pro-processing,and finally displayed in three-dimensional display interface.Experiment results indicate that the UAV-carried line laser scanning three-dimensional display system can acquire the three-dimensional point cloud of large ground objects and show them clearly in the display interface.Comparing to existing scanning systems, the built system is smaller, lower in power consumption, simpler, cheaper, and faster.
