Since 2009, China has become the world’s biggest exporter, and the label of "Made in China" has spread all over the world. The status of a country in the global value chain determines its trade gains. China’s manufacturing industry is at the bottom of "smile curve", and only gets lower distribution of benefits. The traditional cross-border trade statistics system only concerns with the value of the final products. But because the intermediate products experience several times cross-border, it leads to the value of the final product contains the value created abroad, so there is the problem of double counting in traditional trade statistics, and it exaggerates China’s trade surplus, and can’t truly reflect the status of our country in the global value chain. Therefore, the scientific investigation on a country’s GVC position has important significance on formulation and adjustment of trade policy.Firstly, on the basis of the relevant theory and literature, this paper takes electronic and information industry as an example, studies the source of its economic rent in value chain, and discusses four kinds of upgrade paths for global value chains. This paper also takes the development process of China’s domestic mobile phone brand as an example, and carries out case verification for the source of its economic rent in value chain. Then, based on non-competitive input-output model, this paper takes the increase of the value added as a conceptual framework, and selects input-output data in each country around the world in 2000-2011, in order to measure the proportion of domestic value-added for the products exports of electronic information industry in 12 countries. This paper finally found that there is a clear upward trend in the proportion of China’s domestic value-added in export. This paper also simultaneously makes an analysis of GVC position index and GVC participation index, and the result shows a negative correlation between these two factors. This paper constructs transnational panel data model, carries out empirical analysis of the factors affecting the value of domestic value-added, and finds out that there is a significant effect on R&D investment, there is "development threshold" in foreign direct investment and other conclusions. Finally, this paper proposes related policy recommendations based on empirical results.
