With the advent of social media era, it has become the most important communication tool for College Students and has a profound impact on College Students’ political views and values. College students are the hope and future of the nation. Their political values will affect the process of national political modernization and the future direction of the country. From the perspective of political communication, studying the use of social media and its influence on the political knowledge of university students, which will have important significance for the process of China’s political democratization.In this article, using the survey research method to draw from eight universities in Sichuan Province. A total of four hundred and eighty-seven questionnaires were released, which survey on the use of social media and political knowledge of College Students. And the impact of using of social media on the political knowledge of college students is analyzed. Mainly from the following three aspects to carry out the study of the problem. Firstly, the study that on the current situation of the use of social media in Chinese contemporary college students founds that the time of college students on average daily use of various types of social media is mainly concentrated within two hours. And average use time is one hundred and fourteen minutes. Most college students are inclined to use chat tools, followed by social networking sites in the narrow sense, rarely use blogs and forums.And they, in functional preferences of social media, are inclined to use the information application, followed by the use of entertainment application, lastly, the use of relational application. Secondly, research and analysis of the current situation of College Students’ political knowledge, and found that the overall level of political knowledge of the current college students is relatively low. Third, the study analyzed the influence of the use of social media on the political knowledge, it found that Study found that there is no correlation between the length of time of college students’ social media and the college students’ political knowledge. Whether which some type of social media was used does not affect the level of political knowledge of college students. College students are incline to the information application, which contribute to their political knowledge that was significantly higher than that of other types of users.
