With the development of media technology and information transmission technology, media forms are undergoing tremendous changes. The springing-up of social media will undoubtedly become a milestone in the development of media and its uprising means not only dramatic changes of information dissemination with regard to ideas, means and contents, but also tremendous changes in the way of daily life, values of the people, and the cultural transmission patterns.From the perspective of transmission meaning, transmission means determines the morphology of different styles and dissemination of culture. This thesis lays emphasis on the study of the influence of social media on college students to research into the changes brought by social media on college students’ popular cultures. By exploiting ways of literature analysis and content analysis, this thesis redefines the concept of social media, analyzes the new transmission characteristics of information brought by social media, researches into college students’ pop cultural concepts and its latest changes in the context of new transmission, and analyzes and summarizes negatives and positive influences of social media on college pop cultures. Meanwhile, on the basis of a large number of empirical data, this thesis analyzes college students’ use of social media, the influences of social media on college students’ pop culture as well as impacts of social media on college students’ values, and puts forward measures to promote positive interaction between social media and college pop cultures, hoping to promote reasonable transmission of pop cultures in campus and benefit the healthy growth of college students.
