With the development of manufacturing technology of integrated circuit, the traditional electrical interconnection technology cannot satisfy people’s requirement.To solve this problem,optical interconnection is proposed. Compared with the electrical interconnection, optical interconnect technology based on MCM has the advantages of large capacity,anti-interference,energy saving and so on,thus becoming one of the most promising directions of future development of the integrated circuit. It is useful for the optical signals instead of electrical signal to transmit.Optical interconnection can increase transmission effective and avoid the problem of crosstalk caused by the conventional wire.Optical interconnection adapt to the needs of the times and will replace electrical interconnection in the future.Optical interconnect communication consists of three parts: optical transmitter, optical waveguide and the optical receiver.In the part of optical transmitter, the laser driving circuit that is made up of input buffer stage and main amplifier circuit could make the laser work.Actually,there are three different types of lasers,such as Light-emitting diodes, laser diodes and Vertical cavity surface emitting laser device.These lasers` emitting principles are different,and they have their own distinctive features.Driven by the input signal,the driver circuit can make the lasers radiate.It’s the bond that optical waveguide is between the optical transmitter and optical receiver.It’s extremely significant to design a proper waveguide for optical interconnection. At last,by the analysis of the planar optical waveguide, rectangular optical waveguide and ridge waveguide, optical waveguides of rectangular 1×2 and 1×4Y branches based on Si O2 are simulated and analyzed with the help of the software Beam PROP.The core of the optical receiver are photoelectric detector,pre-amplifier and main amplifier. According to different work principles, photodetector can be divided intoseveral types,such as photodiode, PIN photodiodes, avalanche photodiodes and phototransistors.Through a lot of theoretical analysis,I select the transimpedance amplifier(TIA) of structure of RGC to design preamplifiers. The function of the main amplifier is amplifying the signal.According to the different structures, the main amplifier can be divided into two types: a limiting amplifier(LA) and the automatic gain control amplifier(AGC). This paper focuses on the limiting amplifier(LA).In this paper, the laser drive circuit, preamplifier and main amplifier circuit are fabricated by TSMC 0.18 um CMOS. By the analysis of the simulation software cadence,I finally get the gain and-3d B bandwidth of preamplifier and main amplifier.
