English article enjoys an important role in English. This thesis makes a survey on the misuse of English articles by senior high school students under the guidance of Error Analysis, with the purpose of having a deep understanding of the current situation, finding out the causes of those errors and providing suggestions to English article teaching.The three researching questions are:1. What is the mastery sequence of the three types of articles by senior high school students?2. Is there any relation between the forms of tasks and article usage? If there is, how do the forms of tasks affect article usage made by senior high school students?3. What are the possible reasons for these misuses?This study chooses two classes of Grade Two students in Jinzhou No.2 Senior High School as participants, and tests them with writing papers and interview at the same time. The result shows that among the three kinds of articles, students use the definite article best and zero article worst; different forms of tasks have influence on the use of English articles for the types of article errors in different tasks have different representations; and the reasons of these errors can be summarized as influence of the native language, the incomplete application of rules and false concepts hypothesized, teacher’s teaching, personal reasons and environmental reasons.This study can be served as a reference to the English article use by senior high school students. The thesis also provides some suggestions for English article teaching in senior high schools. Firstly, English teacher should pay attention to the English knowledge accumulation of students. Secondly, the teaching of English article should be systematic. Thirdly, teachers should remind students to put emphasis on the article use. Finally, teachers should motivate students’ interests to learn article.
