Chinese ballad has a long history which could be traced back to the time of languageemergence. In other word, they came into being together. Zhuziqing thought balladwas saved by teaching orally and communicate in heart generation after generation,and it appeared earlier than letters. Ballad is the earliest art form of human beings. Itreflects the social reality and people’s mental states all around us accompanied withthe production and living no matter in the ancient times and the modern times.Folk-custom is a living culture of creation and heritage, and it is used to satisfy theneeds of group-living in the historical and social development of a nation. Ballad andFolk-custom are jointed to each other. Dug into the essence from the appearance, theyare different from each other in observation source. Ballads are organized from theangle of art while Folk-custom is organized from the angle of the humanities. In aword, they supplement each other and connect closely.Uyghur ballad developed and completed itself into a unique form which demonstratedthe national traditions, features and aspects of Uyghur people’s life. It includedcustom and beliefs, religious ceremonies, psychological personality, aesthetic featuresand so on.This thesis is mainly made of five chapters. The introduction briefly introduces theconcept, object and value of Ballad and Folklore by researching the developingsituation of Uyghur ballads and using the thoughts and methods. The second chapteranalyzes systematically the form, development, evolvement and types of Uyghurballads on the basis of its historical course. The third chapter analyzes the value ofFolklore from the cultural integration of food, clothing and inhabitant by carrying outthe relation between Uyghur ballads and Uyghur material folk. The forth chapter findsout the value of Folklore through the discussions about the relations among Uyghurballads, life rituals and seasonal festivals. The fifth chapter mainly researches thereligious culture and the taboo custom reflected in Uyghur ballads from the degree ofUyghur spirit.
