Investigations have shown that osteoarthritis(OA) is more likely to affect knee joint and its incidence rate increases with age. OA. Keen-osteoarthritis(KOA) is the most common disease in knee joint inflammations. This chronic progressive disease starts in cartilages, mainly after degeneration and loss of articular cartilage and subchondral bone at the joint margins and bone regeneration as the main feature of chronic progressive disease. Causes untold suffering to middle and senile patients and have a strong impact on their daily life and living activities. Objective:Through the statistical analysis of KOA patients admitted into the department of orthopedics at Wuhan Integrated TCM & Western Medicine Hospital, the objective of this study is to observe the efficacy of Chinese medicine iontophoresis in combination with microwave therapy performed by the author’s supervisor for KOA and its practical value in clinic. Methods:A clinical statistical analysis was conducted for KOA patients admitted to Wuhan Integrated TCM & Western Medicine Hospital from Sep. 10, 2012 to Jan.14, 2014 with clinical analytic approaches. A total of 83 cases were obtained during this period, and 48 of them were enrolled by excluding involuntary subjects and those under 40 years old. The 48 cases were divided into combination group(8 males and 16 females) and control group(9 males and 15 males), 24 cases for each group. The combination group received Chinese medicine iontophoresis in combination with microwave therapy, while the control group received Chinese medicine iontophoresis alone. The clinical effects and test results of both groups were observed. Results:The quantized values of HSS scores and statistical data were compared according to Criteria of Diagnosis and Therapeutic Effect of Diseases And Syndromes in Traditional Chinese Medicine in both groups before and after treatment, and there were statistically significant differences in curative effect between the two groups(P<0.05).1. The cure rate in the combination group was 62.50%, with a total effective rate of 87.50%; the cure rate in the control group was 50.00%, with a total effective rate of 75.00%. Statistical data processing showed P<0.05. The improvement rate in the combination group was 25.00%, and that in the control group was 25.00%. Test showed P>0.05, suggesting that the combination group had a higher cure rate and total effective rate than the control group.2. The HSS scores in both groups were compared. There results showed that the two had equivalent curative effect in terms of myodynamia stability, flexion deformity and HSS total scores, showing no statistically significant difference(P>0.05). However, there were statistically significant differences between the two groups in pain, function, knee joint range of motion and HSS total score(P<0.05), suggesting that the combination group has better effects in improving knee joint range of motion, relieving pains, enhancing knee joint functions than the control group. Conclusion:Chinese medicine iontophoresis in combination with microwave therapy has definite and better effect than in the treatment of KOA. Compared with the use of Chinese medicine iontophoresis alone, Chinese medicine iontophoresis in combination with microwave therapy shows more obvious effects in relieving pains, increasing knee joint range of motion and mitigating illness and has a higher total effective rate. |
