Objective:To investigate the effect of body mass index (BMI) on breast cancer recurrence and metastasis after standard treatment. Methods:Collect clinical data such as tumor stage, menopausal status, age, ethnicity, Immunohistochemical results, height, weight of 1061 diagnosed with breast cancer cases from July 2009 to August 2014 in Xinjiang Tumor Hospital affiliated Xinjiang Medical University. All patients were standard treated. The follow-up time ranged from 2 to 62 months, and median follow-up time was 48 months. Chi-square test and T-test analysis were used to analyze the influence of BMI change to breast cancer recurrence and metastasis. Results:Tumor stage, tumor grade, tumor size, histological type of breast cancer, axillary lymph node metastasis, menopausal status, molecular typs etc clinical indicators are not factors of three kinds BMI trends, and these clinical indicators there are not correlation between three BMI trends. Changes of body mass index in breast cancer recurrence and metastasis patients (1.2977±1.9113) than those without recurrence and metastasis in patients (0.7095± 1.5900) were significantly different (t= 3.192, P= 0.001), body mass index change between the rise trend, flat trend and declined trend were significantly different (P< 0.005), body mass index variation in the rise trend has the biggest risk of tumor recurrence and metastasis in breast cancer patients. Conclusion: Sustained increase in body mass index the risk of breast cancer recurrence and metastasis. Maintain a reasonable body weight helps prevention of breast cancer recurrence and metastasis.
