ObjectiveAnesthesia and the other factors after abdominal operation, especially the major laparotomy operation, lead to gastrointestinal dysfunction is very common in clinic. It directly delayed the recovery after operation and the incision healing, even caused the complications. Gastrointestinal peristalsis slowing down caused gastrointestinal internal pressure which led to anastomotic fistula, water, electrolyte and acid-base balance disorders, bacterial infection. Gastrointestinal dysfunction directly affect the postoperative holistic recovery, increased hospitalization time and the expenses, caused unnecessary disputes between doctors and patients, psychological burden for both doctors and patients, and even cause serious complications such as intestinal adhesion. The purpose and significance of this study is to exert the advantages of TCM in this regard, for searching a more simple, convenient, effective method to prevent the postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction.MethodsThe included patients were randomly treated with the method of Shu and Mu points acupoint catgut embedding or electroacupuncture, controlled by the multicenter clinical study, compared the clinical data on the effect of bowel sounds recovery after abdominal operation, fart, defecate and full liquid diet recovery etc.46 cases randomly divided into the back Shu and front Mu points catgut embedding group and electroacupuncture group. Acupoint catgut embedding therapy group were given Acupoint catgut embedding in bilateral dachangshu, Weishu, Tianshu and Zhongwan for 6 hours after the operation, the control group were given bilateral Zusanli electroacupuncture treatment in the 6 hours after the operation. Records of patients with postoperative bowel sounds recovery time, the first defecation fart time, restore full liquid diet time length, postoperative hospital stay time, postoperative nasogastric retention time, postoperative complications. At the same time observed the safe projects such as blood routine and biochemical test in the first and the third day before and after the operation. Data was analyzed and processed by using chi square test, analysis of variance, t test on the efficacy results. The data between the two groups was compared by analysis of variance.ResultsAcupoint catgut embedding group postoperative bowel sounds recovery time length is (21.8261±8.9869) hours, the first defecation time length is (49.7826±19.2394) hours, restore full flow diet time length is (52.3913± 14.0105) hours, nasogastric retention time length is (50.6957±14.1347) hours, respectively shorter than the electroacupuncture control groups bowel sounds recovery time (22.9348±7.9606) hours, the first defecation time length (57.7826±18.4587) hours, restore full flow diet time length (59.3696+ 18.5761) hours, nasogastric retention time (55.5217±19.9701) hours. The first defecation time length, recovery compared with full flow diet time length have statistical significance (P<0.05). Though the acupoint catgut embedding group postoperative hospital stay time length (8.0870±3.2180) hours, first defecation time length (39.0217±15.8218) hours are longer than the electroacupuncture postoperative hospital stay time length (7.6957±3.0665) hours, first defecation time length (38.6522±11.6983) hours, but no statistical significance (P>0.05).ConelusionAcupoint catgut embedding group of patients, although in the first postoperative fart time and postoperative hospital stay time are longer than electroacupuncture group. But the time of the recovery of bowel sound, the time of first defecation, the restoration of full liquid diet time and the length of nasogastric retention time, are observably shorter than the electroacupuncture group. The comparation of the time between the first defecation and the restoration of liquid diet showed statistical significance. Compared with the electroacupuncture group, the acupoint catgut embedding group for patients with gastrointestinal function recovery after abdominal operation effected more obvious.
