Objective:To investigate the association of volume, anatomic sites and umber of expender used with postoperative complications in patients received tissue expansion. Methods:The present study take a retrospective analysis to the 144 cases(using201expanders)inourdepartmentin2011-2012.all data were analysed b y SPSS 16.0, the total comparison of the rates of multiple samples were acquired according to their theoretical cell frequencies by Fisher’s exact probability test o r chi-square test, that pairwise comparison was conducted by chi-square test if T > 5, otherwise (T<5) by Fisher’s exact probability test. Results:Complications were identified in 31 placed expanders (15.42%). These included hematoma (45.2% of complication), infection (29.0%), exposures of the implant (22.6%) and suture dehiscence (3.2%). Statistic analysis showed that the incidence rate of haematoma was higher than that of suture dehiscence (p<0.01). When comparing the incidences of complications in different anatomic sites, the face (22.22%) and neck (37.5%) were more likely than to develop complications ((p<0.01). When refer to the different expander number or filed volume,no association had found with the complication incidence rate(P>0.05).Conclusion:Our finding suggested that the most common postoperative complication of tissue expansion was haematoma. There also has a relationship between the complication rates and anatomic sites, face and neck were more likely to develop complications after expansion. To reduce the incidences rate of complications, risk factors for tissue expansion complications must be prevented during operation.
