Objective:To investigate the relationship between resting heart rate(RHR) and artery elastic function in middle and old aged patients with hypertension, thus provides the clinical basis for intervention on the resting heart rate of patients with hypertension. Methods:This study was conducted in118patients,46males and72females,45-84years old.According to the RHR levels,118cases were divided into three groups:R1group(50-65beats/min),R2group (66-79beats/min),R3group (RHR≥80beats/min).The systolic blood pressure(SBP、 diastolic blood pressure(DBP、 pulse blood pressure(PP)、 BMI、 plasma glucose(FPG)、 total cholesterol(TC)、 low density lipop-rotein cholesterol(LDL-C)、 high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)、 triglycer-ide(TG). electrocardiogram (ECG)、 large and small artery compliance (C1、 C2) were measured in the three groups. And then compared the results of the above datas and analysis the correlation of C1、 C2and RHR.Results:①No significant differences in SBP. DBP. PP, BMI GLU TC、 LDL-C、 HDL-C. and TG were found among three groups (P>0.05), this removed the influence of other cardiovascular factors on the artery compliance before compare the RHR levels in three groups.②The differences of large and small artery compliance were significant among the three groups (P<0.05) indicates that there were differences of large and small artery compliance among patients with different RHR levels.③From R1group to R3group, C1decreased significantly and the difference was statistically significant (P=0.01, P<0.05),but no significant differences in C1were found among R1group and R2group (P=0.121). R2group and R3group (P=0.34); From R2group to R3group, C2decreased signific-antly and the difference was statistically significant (P=0.008, P<0.01),but no significant differences in C2were found among R1group and R2group (P=0.232) R1group and R3group (P=0.125).④Correlation analysis revealed Cl and C2related negatively with RHR,correlation index was0.356(P<0.05) and0.024(P<0.05) respectively.Conclusion:①C1and C2decrease gradually with RHR,there is correlation between resting heart rate and vascular lesions in middle and old aged patients with hyperten sion.②RHR influences on large artery compliance may be stronger than the impact on small artery compliance.③RHR by influencing artery elastic function that affect the prognosis of patients with hypertension and early intervention for RHR can be beneficial in middle and old aged patients with hypertension.④Whether the decrease of RHR which led by different kinds of drugs can be beneficial to the improvement of artery elastic function and which level of control target on RHR is advisable for patients with hypertension need further research.
