ObjectiveTo know the life quality of children with asthma, and the needs of health service ofthe families; To explore the effect of the family centered care (FCC) on prevention andtreatment of childhood asthma.MethodsNinety-eight children with asthma were randomly divided into two groups.Fiftychildren in the intervention group were received regular treatment, and FCCmanagement at same time; Forty-eight children in the control group were given routinenursing and regular treatment. Evaluating the role of FCC by usingAsthma knowledge questionnaire,Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire(PAQLQ) and pulmonary function testing. To compare PAQLQ score and pulmonaryfunction of two groups before and after Nursing Intervention..Results1. Questionnaires show that the principal source of parents’ asthma knowledge wasmedical staff. The other sources including network, asthma lectures, books, andcommunication with other parents of children with asthma, others (such aspublicity card). Overall, most Parents lacked the knowledge of asthma nursing, compliance is poor, and the families bore a great financial burden.2. Before intervention, the scores of PAQLQ were all in the middle level in twogroups. After six months intervention, there were significant differences in thesymptom, emotion and aggregate score between the intervention group and controlgroup(p<0.05). After twelve months intervention, there were significant differences inall aspects of PAQLQ score between the two groups (p<0.05).3. Pulmonary function in children with asthma has been improved by FCCmanagement. After six months intervention, there were significant differences in the index of FEV1、PEF、FEF25、FEF50between the intervention group and control group(p<0.05). After twelve months intervention, there were significant differences in theindex of FEV1、PEF、FEF25、FEF50、FEF75between the two groups (p<0.05).Conclusion1. By using FCC management, parents and medical staff established a closepartnership. Children carers were encouraged to participate in making medicaldecision,. So, FCC is an effective mode of management of children with asthma.2. FCC obviously increases asthmatic children and their parents to adhere to thetreatment, that can improve pulmonary function, quality of life and long-team control ofasthmatic children....
