Objective:(1) To describe the state quo of pediatric nurses’ professional autonomy andjob satisfaction.(2) To analyze demographic data’s impact on pediatric nurses’professional autonomy and job satisfaction.(3) To explore the relationship betweenprofessional autonomy and job satisfaction. In order to provide a theoretical basis forimproving nurses’ professional autonomy and job satisfaction, meanwhile make a nurseretention strategy for the hospital administrators.Methods:In this study, a non-experimental descriptive and correlational design wasused.600pediatric nurses who came from3A-Grade children’s hospital of Guangzhoucity were selected. They were investigated by Nursing Professional Autonomy Scale andNurses’ Job Satisfaction Questionnaire with convenience sampling method. Epidata3.0software and SPSS16.0version were respectively used to entry and analyze researchdatas.Results:(1) The total scores of pediatric nurses’ professional autonomy were179.8317.93; Working attitude and professional commitment had the highest scores, thelowest scores belonged to professional role identity and the social identity of nursingprofession; Different age, marital status, fertility, working department, level of education,seniority, potision and night shift of pediatric nurses’ professional autonomy scores werestatistical significant (P<0.05).(2) The total scores of pediatric nurses’ job satisfaction were146.0826.01; Interaction between doctors-nurses and nurses-nurses were the mostsatisfacted dimensions, the most dissatisfacted dimensions were salary and work content;Different marital status, fertility, working department, seniority, potision and night shift ofpediatric nurses’ job satisfaction scores were statistical significant (P<0.05).(3) Itindicated that pediatric nurses’ professional autonomy positively correlated with jobsatisfaction (r=0.459, P<0.005). Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that5ofthe matching variables into the predicted equation,the factors included the leadership style,the social identity of nursing profession, professional role identity, professionalcommitment and position (P<0.005).Conclusions:(1) The level of pediatric nurses’ professional autonomy was in the middle,the two highest scores dimensions were work attitude and professional commitment, thesocial identity of nursing profession had the lowest scores. The demographic factors whichinfluenced professional autonomy were age, marital status, fertility, working department,level of education, seniority, potision and night shift.(2)49.81%pediatric nurses hadlower job satisfaction. The most satisfacted dimension was doctors-nurses’ interaction,work content was the most dissatisfacted dimension. The demographic factors whichinfluenced job satisfaction were marital status, fertility, working department, seniority,potision and night shift.(3) Pediatric nurses’ professional autonomy and job satisfactionwere positively correlated. The leadership style, social identity of nursing profession,professional role identity, professional commitment and position had impact on pediatricnurses’ job satisfaction.
