Airborne radar altimeter is a kind of airborne equipment used to measure the distance between aircraft and land. It can provide altitude information for airborne electronic system and aviators fast and accurately under all-weather, which can assist the maneuvering and decision-making of aircraft. Therefore, airborne radar altimeter has been widely uesd in military aircrafts or civil aircrafts.In order to improve the height measurement precision, reliability and low probability of intercept ability, the research work about radar measurement technology has made progress, various radar altimeters emerge, which are uesd in different platforms or different environments. Meanwhile, due to its particular flexibility, high-efficiency and fidelity, radar system simulation provides the technical support for the technical research, system development and performance evaluation of radar measurement technology.This paper is based on the research of airborne radar altimeter measurement technology, airborne radar altimetersimulation system is built with radar system simulation technology and visual simulation technology. The simulation experiment studies about the height measurement precision, reliability and low probability of intercept ability are carried out, which can offer simulation experiment environment for the technical research, system development and performance evaluation of airborne radar altimeter. The main contents of this paper are as follows:First of all, in this paper, the working principle and system structure of tranditional continuous wave airborne radar altimeter are introduced, typical height measurement methods and their performance are researched, and measuring error is analysed.Secondly, airborne radar altimeter system based on frquency hopping hybrid modulation is researched, which is aimed at improving low probability of intercept ability of airborne radar altimeter in complex electronic countermeasure environment.Thirdly, the airborne radar altimeter simulation system is built, which takes the key factors in measurement and electronic countermeasures process of airborne radar altimeter, such as aircraft and antenna, transmitter-receiver isolation, echo signal, receiving and signal processing and interceptors, as targets. Combined with visual simulation technology, the airborne radio altimeters work process and results are visualized and dynamicly expressed.Finally, based on the airborne radar altimeter simulation system, the system simulation is studied experimentally, and the performance of the height measurement precision, reliability and low probability of intercept ability is evaluated.
