From the Internet era of PC to mobile, terminal devices continue to increase drastically. Mobile Internet technologies, Internet of things technologies, together with next-generation Internet technologies are constantly evolving. Consequently, massive quantities of IP are required so as to uniquely identify> perceive and locate the network position. Due to the large-address-space property of IPv6protocol and its other great merits, IPv6will gradually take place of IPv4around the globe, applying on a broader scale in the future. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv6is a functional module allocating IPv6address, IPv6prefix, along with configuration parameters for each node in the network. When DHCPv6module communicates with peripheral modules in different modes, specific networking as well as distinct environments can be supported. While the implementation of DHCPv6system can be diversified, combining functions of DHCPv6and other peripheral modules are far from perfect simultaneously. Thus, there are still various potential advantages remain to be discovered.Based on the project in collaboration with H3C Company, the following functions were added in addition to the normal DHCPv6system in this paper:Virtual Private Network of DHCPv6support, Broadband Access Server of DHCPv6support and Virtual Standby Redundancy Protocol of DHCPv6support, which were used in order to improve security, intelligentization and reliability respectively. Solutions to the DHCPv6system expansion were proposed. At the beginning of this paper, the task was simplified through subdividing layers from top to bottom. Then, interaction patterns among main functions of DHCPv6and the external modules were analyzed, as discussed in the overall design and detailed design section. Moreover, DHCPv6extension program development was completed step by step. Finally, design of the test program verified the feasibility of the implementation.
