In recent years, the rapid development of embedded technology, and the popularity ofembedded products, its high-performance, high-reliability features make it used more andmore widely.With the development of the car, as the main display module on the car, the automotiveinstruments also have taken place a great reformation. Traditional mechanical and analoginstrument have been gradually not meet the requirements of the driver for acquisition anddisplay a variety of information. The embedded digital instrumentation designed by IC ismoving towards to the intelligent direction. In the limited space and display interface, itdisplays the large amounts of the collected data by category using software programming willhave a great practical significance.In this context, this paper built the MiniGUI development environment on the VxWorksoperating system, and then designed a digital instrument. The data acquisition module willcollect the engine speed and the fuel tank, and then converted into digital signals sent to it.The design of the digital instrument includes data acquisition, data processing andinterface display. In the data acquisition section, it will mainly collect the engine speed andfuel data. Then use the A/D converter module converts them to digital signals. In the dataprocessing section, the application calculates the current position of the pointer based on thepassed speed value while showing the specific value in the static text box. The driver canobtain the current transmitter speed either by the current position of the pointer or the valueof the static text box.In the oil quantity display section, firstly, it calculates the current oil quantity of the totalvolume ratio of the tank capacity. Secondly, adjust the amount of oil to the percentage of theprogress bar. Thirdly, show the specific value of the current amount of oil in the top of the bar.If the oil value is less than a specified value, gives a warning message to the driver.In the digital instrument application, it will do some calculation before adjust the value ofthe screen. Because of the engine speed is changed with the time, in order to be able todynamically show the current value, this article set a timer to inform the system to refresh theinterface to attain the effect of dynamic display. In order to do an intuitive, effective trend distribution of the engine and fuel, before dataprocessing we can save the collected data. We can read the saved data while drawingtendency chart, it can very clearly see the overall work of the engine.In this paper, it mainly completed the build of the development environment, cut thesystem, and the design of the instrument. After the completion of the design, use thedevelopment board to verify function. The results show that the instrument can meet thedemand, and achieve the design purpose. But it still need to improve, and pointed out thedirection of improvement.
