American Movies Correspondent Image 1946-1976

The dissertation mainly studies the images of journalist of the American films,however, it differs from the tradition research methods that just classify these images into several simple catagories,but try to explore the deep reasons for these changes of images,and interpret the intricate relationship between the political,cultural and other rights mechanisms through these visible changes.Baseing on the carefully analysis each movie form different periods in the American movies history,This dissertation studies several journalism films that appeared between1946and1976in order to summerise some regular traits of images of journalists in the movies.Between forties and fifties,the majority of the approximately700journalism films released during this time did little to challenge the accepted dipiction that had formed in the silent movie era and through the Thirties,.But others dramatized a shift in the nostalgic tradition by exposing the excesses of a rougish character type that had made likeable and predictable such traits as cynicism and amorality..When dramatic changes were evolving in society and in paricular in Hollywood and the news media obviously challenge the audiences’expectation of cenimatic journalists,till late sixties and early seventies,few if any of those journalists in the nostalgic films would be able to fit the new media world.Part of the dissertation includes a "thick description"of one film,Media Cool(1969),relative to two aspects of the Sixties:a Flim Realism Culture and a Television News Culture.
