Research On History Studies Of Contemporary Mass Communication In The United States

This dissertation attempts to clarify the basic context and the main historical concept of contemporary American mass communication historiography studies.It needs historical criticism according to inherent logic and reflection framework of historical concept evolving in the contemporary American mass communication history studies.In terms of specific approach, it should be investigated from both internal and external factors. As far as the external factors are concerned, in addition to studying contemporary American social, culture and other external conditions, the evolution and development of western history subject constitute the ideological environment of contemporary American mass communication historical concept. From internal perspective, Own evolving discipline of mass communications industry, and the conceptual and practical interaction from both the mass communication industry and many social fields such as cultural, political, economic and others, work together to build the three representative paths' concepts and methods of contemporary American mass communication historiography studies.This article presents the historical context of the general evolution of contemporary American mass communication history studies,which is from western traditional history studies to New history. From the historical origin, this paper reviews the historical concept by focusing on historical theme construction process of journalistic professionalism in the traditional history studies period,including the two stages from the descriptive dimension to the interpretive dimension. After World War II with re-orientation of modern western historiography, Historical concepts and historical method shows diversification, continuing to broaden and excavating deepen situation,and the New history trends affects gradually the evolution of mass communication history studying. Until 1970s, it enter the new stage of the contemporary mass communication historiography studies,in the overall research trend, showing the main studying paths include new cultural history studies, multicultural history studies and global history studies.This article shows the background and basic characteristics of the cultural history studies. The paper mainly focuses on the trends of American cultural history studies and cultural communication tradition.In order to investigate the cultural-dimension history studies,this paper reviews the genealogy of knowledge and the main features of the cultural history studies.
