As one of the oldest opera in the world, Chinese opera has become the most important symbol and component of Chinese traditional culture because of its specific art style, multiple art technique expression and special orient appreciation of beauty. It has a vital function on Chinese cultural transmission. Chinese opera spread goes back to13th century. However, at present, there are many problems on the extent and quality of Chinese opera transmission. Especially there are both opportunities and challenges for Chinese opera’s transmission under the background of globalization. For each opera and culture transmission’s researcher, how to spread this oldest art form to abroad becomes a major mission. Yuan drama, which is spread overseas earliest, has a typical meaning in Chinese ancient opera transmission’s studies between different cultures. The thesis takes Yuan drama’s transmission between different cultures as an example to summary the problems on Chinese opera’s transmission. Meanwhile based on analysis and studies, it attempts to explore how to spread the Chinese ancient opera overseas efficiently and put forward exercisable strategies.Based on the value and progress of Chinese ancient opera’s transmission between different cultures, the thesis takes Yuan drama as an example to point out the problems on Chinese ancient drama’s transmission and improvement strategies.Chapter one investigates features of Yuan drama and values of Yuan drama’s transmission. Then it introduces profound effect in the Chinese ancient opera history. It profits from the background of multiple nationalities’ cultures. Then it forms its special art style by absorbing many folk art elements. Yuan drama becomes a full-blown sign of Chinese ancient opera. It’s also the earliest Chinese ancient opera form spread to abroad. So it has magnificent meaning for Chinese ancient opera’s transmission.Chapter two focus on Yuan drama’s transmission between different cultures issues and its current situation. First it talks about Yuan drama’s performing activities and theories on Yuan drama. Then it analyses some of Yuan drama’s translations of typical works, such as Xixiangji, Doueyuan, and the Zhao’s orphon. Secondly, in this chapter it summaries Yuan drama’s transmission flaws on quality, because of differences of cultural background and performing style. It analyzes English translation’s problems, especially taking Guan Hanqing Yuan Drams translated by Yang Xianyi and Dai Naidie as examples, and discusses three aspects in detail:cultural words, idiom and lines from the view of dissemination.Chapter three puts forward cultural transmission’s strategies under the different conditions. It includes improvement strategies in both translation and performing problems based on issues appeared during the Chinese opera transmission’s process. At the same time it explores how to use new media to spread Chinese traditional opera, taking Yuan drama as an example.The article finally parts focus on opportunities and trends of Chinese traditional opera’s transmission between different cultures. It summaries improvement strategies on Chinese traditional opera’s transmission based on both domestic and international environment.
