As the most rapid developing branch of communication technology in recent years, wireless communication has been extensively applied to various fields such as military communications and civilian communications. Due to its outstanding performance in field operations, such as quickly formed tactical communications network with the ability of self-organizing, survivability and mobility, which can improve the communication efficiency and viability of battlefield communication system, radio network communication, such as short wave radio, ultra short wave radio and micro wave radio, has already been widely used in the field of military communications. Therefore, the theory research that is committed to improve the radio network performance has a very practical application value. In this paper, by analyzing the basic working principle of the widely equipped ultra short wave military radios and its network communication capabilities in the field, it draws the limitations of the existing radios while being used in terrain complex battlefield environment such as mountains, jungles, etc. In order to solve the above problem, first of all, this paper focuses on the analysis and research in terms of the basic theory of the Ad Hoc networking technology, MAC protocols, routing protocols and so on. Then, based on the broadband intelligent wireless radio network’s characteristics, the design scheme of improving protocols on the data link layer and the network layer was out. Finally, through the expansion development based on the NS-2network simulation software platform, the simulation realization of broadband intelligent wireless radio networking’s behavior in large scale network is given. After the routing protocol performance index is calculated according to the results of simulation data, the rationality and effectiveness of the improved protocol are verified by the network performance index ascension.
