In recent years, WMN(Wireless Mesh network) has become a new research focusin wireless computer networks, its main purpose is to solve the problem of networkterminal access, so that the terminal user could obtain more efficient network. To acertain extent, WMN can be thought as the combination of WLAN and MANET(mobile ad hoc network). It has more advantages than variety of traditional networkssuch as self-organization, self-healing, easy and simple network constructing, low costand it has limitless prospects.Routing protocol is the important factor of any network and it is the key todetermine WMN, but till now there is no one routing protocol is completely suitablefor WMN. AODV is currently the most widely used and highest recognized routingprotocol for WMN, but it is mainly for strongly dynamic ad hoc network and it can notget the ideal effect while using in WMN, mainly focused in two aspects: the first oneis about node energy issues, energy shortage has always been a huge threat on theconnectivity of the network; the other one is about the node number is so large in largescale network that there would exist network congestion peak and increase the delayof the network connection, severe cases may lead to unable to connect network. Inaddition, AODV routing protocol is not fully consistent with the WMN routing designprinciples, so that a pressing matter of the moment should be improving the existingAODV routing protocol to get a desired effect whiling using in WMN.In view of the above problems, this paper first improved AODV protocol: clusternodes according to the region and select the adequate energy member node as thecluster head node, the intermediate nodes are all cluster head node, cluster head nodeis responsible for the cluster nodes forwarding mechanism, it is equivalent to the effectof base station and ensure stability of the link, and give the message format and routefinding algorithms of the improved routing protocol EC-AODV; then simulated theimproved protocol with network simulation software and compared the performancewith AODV from the indices of network end-to-end delay, routing overhead and thenetwork survival time, the results showed that the routing performance of EC-AODVis more ideal than AODV.
