The reading tastes of book in the groups have a close relationship with the socialcultural environment. Obviously, the each transformation of social structure causesvarious changes of the social psychology through which different reading tasteswould appeared, on the other hand, the reading tastes would variation with thechanges of psycho-social and cultural. In1978-2008, the mainland China reform andopening up30years, the social environment has a profound impact on factors thatclosely related to and constitute a complex environment for book reading and evenchange the direction of the reading tastes, such as the value orientation of thepublishing industry, psycho-social of reader groups, cultural policy, etc. Thediscussion of the reading tastes of book that in this paper combined quantitativeresearch and qualitative research. In quantitative research, the combing of22majorcategories of books publishing structural data in this period came to a view thatreaders in mainland China prefer to read7kind of books, and then classified booksthrough the analysis as volatile and stable according to the different results cause byvarious factors, then concluded that reading become to diversify while the publishingstructural get reasonable. In terms of qualitative research, the various of bookreading tastes was took for transverse analysis and each period of30years forlongitudinal analysis. In the part of reading taste research, the paper analyzed theintrinsic characteristics, tendency and the change situation of the reading tastes ofthe7kind of books through comprehensive analysis of social reading hot spots, thebest-selling book and other factors, and uncover the interaction between the readingtastes and socio-cultural environment by consider the phenomenon and psychologyin the transformation of mainland China. Then taking time for the longitudinal part,considered the changes of socio-reading tastes from1978to2008, divided the30years into4periods, and described the reading tastes in each period, therebyemerged the path of the change of the reading tastes of contemporary mainlandChina roughly.
