Isocrates and Plato belong to the same era, which was born in436BC. The founder of Isocrates’rhetoric academy founded earlier than Plato academy, which is regarded as the first real higher education institutions in ancient Greece by many western education historian. This academy not only had a fixed location and established school system, but also formed a set of characteristic teaching method and the extremely influencing the education idea.This article set about the origin of Isocrates’education thoughts and introduced his life and major education practice. According to his educational background, era background and social aspects, analyzed theory basis of education thought which mainly embodied in the practice wisdom of education philosophy and panhellenic political theory basis.Isocrates’educational thoughts mainly include:To cultivate orator is the main purpose of education;The main factors of education can be divided into "talent, practice and teaching" three aspects;Education process extremely emphasize practice;Another point is that he repeatedly stressed academy should pay attention to the cultivation of good reputation. Isocrates put its educational ideas through his educational practice and founded the rhetoric of "practical" oriented education mode. He set up a more comprehensive curriculum system around the purpose of education and teaching methods are "individual guidance and actual combat training","discussion teaching method"," extensive reading ","mutual criticism method" and "listen and imitate"and so on.Isocrates is the founder of "rhetoric education" model. Its educational ideas is different from both the Plato’s education thought of the "concept of world", but also from critics of "the wise education", instead of trying to find a way to each other in a fusion of the "ideal" and "reality ".
