Reading has been proved to be quite beneficial to language learning by previous experience. Even with deepening reform on Chinese teaching, we should never ignore its importance as in the teaching process, which is of significance on bringing the teaching of reading back into class and teaching practice, as well as letting us understand the connotation of reading more precisely and comprehensively.This essay is comprised of five parts-Part Ⅰ includes the definition of reading, which is specified as "Shudujingsi, Kousongxinwei". It means to understand the rhythm as well as the underlying meanings, and gains more comprehensive understanding; Part Ⅱ highlights the profound importance of reading (e.g. enhance reading comprehension); Part Ⅲ discusses the three advantages of the teaching method of reading (i.e. enhancing emotional experience, influencing one’s sentiment, strengthen one’s aesthetic function). Then we try to acquire some insights into four problems in regards of the teaching method of reading:insufficient devoted time, lack of guidance by teachers, narrow scope of reading content and method, incomplete assessing system; Part IV describes the current situation of the teaching method of reading followed by analysis on its forming reasons; Part V emphasis on the requirement on teachers in terms of their reading skills and cultivation path, as well as the strategy for the teaching of reading in middle school. This essay has incorporated a number of case studies as supplements. The author is willing to make some contribution to improving the teaching method of reading in both theoretical and practical manner.
