Children with recurrent respiratory tract infection (recurrent respiratory tract infection RRTI) is a common childhood respiratory disease with the clinical features of recurrent prolonged course. If not treated properly, it will seriously affect not only the growth and development of children’s mental health, but also increase the possibility of chronic respiratory disease in adults. This paper reviews the etiology and pathogenesis, treatment and research advances of RRTI in both western and Chinese medicine. It explored incidence of children recurrent respiratory tract infection from the point of blood stasis and heat accumulation, evaluated the Dangguiliuhuangtang soup clinical effect in treating recurrent respiratory tract infection and made a clinical foundation for further studies from the point of blood stasis and heat accumulation. Objective:To observe the Dangguiliuhuangtang soup clinical effect in treatment of children with recurrent respiratory tract infection of blood stasis and heat accumulation, reveal the significance and necessity from blood stasis and heat accumulation in treatment of children with recurrent respiratory tract infection and seek a new way to further study of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of children with recurrent respiratory tract infection. Methods:This study randomly divided60patients with recurrent respiratory tract infection that met inclusion criteria into treatment group and control group,30cases in each group.30cases in treatment group were given Dangguiliuhuangtang soup treatment,30patients of control group were given Pidotimod oral treatment, The course of treatment was lmonth. The two groups of children were given the anti infection, fever, cough treated accordingly if they had acute respiratory infection during taking medicine, and continued the treatment in a stable condition.Six months were followed after the end of treatment to observe the before and after treatment in children with the total efficacy, main symptoms, signs and the incidence of the diseaseResults:(1) Comparison of curative effect of disease:The total effective rate of the treatment group is93.33%,the control group82.86%,the difference has statistical significance.(P<0.05)(2)Comparison of curative effect of TCM syndromes:The total effective rate of the treatment group is90.00%,the control group66.67%,the difference has statistical significance.(P<0.05),the treatment group was significantly better than the control group in improving the TCM syndromes(3) In the improvement of symptoms and signs:Between the comparison of treatment groups and the control group:Comparison of signs and symptoms scores before the treatment, P>0.05, there was no significant difference. Comparison after the treatment:the treatment group had remarkably significant differences on the improvement of poor feverishness in the palms and soles, red pharynx, dry stools, hidrosis compared with the control group(P<0.01), had significant difference on the improvement of red lips, restless sleep and swelling nasal mucosa(P<0.05),and there is no significant difference in mouth odor, teeth grinding P>0.05.Within group comparison, the treatment group had remarkably significant difference on the improvement of symptoms and signs (P<0.01) Compared with before treatment; the control group had significant difference on the improvement of red pharynx, red lips, mouth odor and teeth grinding P<0.05, remaining symptomatic improvement not evident P>0.05.Conclusion:Dangguiliuhuangtang soup plus magnolia and fructus xanthii with the function of benefiting qi and nourishing yin, benefiting qi and nourishing yin, were better than Pidotimod group in the treatment of children with recurrent respiratory tract infection of blood stasis and heat accumulation curative effect and TCM syndrome curative effect, especially on the improvement of poor feverishness in the palms and soles, red pharynx, dry stools, hidrosis. The result suggests Dangguiliuhuangtang soup has quite valid curative effect on children with recurrent respiratory tract infection, especially for RRTI with the presence of chronic disease such as chronic rhinitis pharyngitis, tonsillitis repeated respiratory. It is worthy of further clinical study.
