Objective To explore the quality of life (QOL) and carotid internal medial thickness(IMT) of patients in early stage type 2 diabetes who underwent treatment ofLiuweidihuang pills and Tablet of ginkgo Leaf. And the cost effectiveness was evaluated. Methods The study was an 18-month double-blind, randomized, parallel controlledpolycentric add-on trial. 143 cases diagnosed in type 2 diabetes under treatment of westmedicine simplifies and 143 cases group combined with Chinese medicine wereinvestigated by using the diabetes QOL (DSQL) questionnaires. 53 cases of each groupwere also IMT measured. The comparison of QOL, IMT and the meliorative rates betweenthe two groups were made. The efficiency was evaluated by pharmacoeconomiccost-effectiveness analysis. Results 1.Quality of life (QOL) : There was significant decrease in QOL after18 month in trial group (P<0.05), while increase in control group, which was significantdifference between the two groups (P<0.05) that the meliorative rate of QOL of trialgroup were higher than of control group.2. Carotid internal medial thickness (IMT) :①There was increase in IMT in bothgroup. In eighteenth month, IMT increased significantly in control group(P<0.01), whichexceeded their normal range (<0.75mm) and was shown to be different from trial group(P<0.05). The IMT of trial group was 0.62mm that is in the normal range and delay therate of incrassation by 36%.②The rate of incrassation in control group was 66.7%,significantly higher than 41.9% in trial group (P<0.05). Havzard ratio (HR)=0.63(95%CI 0.53~0.73) lowered 37% than in control group.3. Cost effectiveness analysis: To ascend 1% of the meliorative rate of QOL and therate of delaying incrassation of IMT cost more in control group than in trial group. Conclusions Liuweidihuang pills and Tablet of ginkgo Leaf improve the QOL of patients in early stage type 2 diabetes, delay the incrassation of IMT, and cost effectivenessof combination of Chinese medicine and west medicine is better than west medicinesimplifies.
