Objectives:To predict the local oral health service needed including how many dentists,dental nurse and how many dental institutes and dental equipment needed in acounty in Guangxi by survey and analyze of the overall status of oral healthservice capacity in Jingxi, Guangxi.Method:The study had been carried out in Aug-Nov in2013. The data werecollected by structure questionnaire. Questionnaire information included numberof dental institutions, medical institutions, all kinds of oral equipment, item oforal treatment, income in oral institutes, oral health service needed. The studycarried by dentist who work in Guangxi Medical University and staff whoworking in Jingxi Center for Disease Control and PreventionResults:1. There are8oral institutions in Jingxi. There is one at the county level andone at the township-level, and there are6private dental clinics, accounting for the percentage is75%.28dentists in Jingxi and only five of them are in publicinstitutions, the percentage is17.9%;23of them are in private dental clinics, thepercentage is82.1%. Most of the oral institutions including private institutionsare in the county,and the main oral resources are concentrated in private dentalinstitutions but not in the public.2. There are of37oral comprehensive treatment chairs,14specialdisinfection cabinets,4dental X-ray machines,32teeth cleaning machines,35light curing machines,334dental handpieces,216dental forceps. No dentalx-ray machines and extracting forceps and other equipments in towns andtownships.3. The number of outpatients in the past year in Jingxi was44192, with thedental gross income4.99million yuan.4. The degree of dentists was not high. Bachelor degree or above, only6people, the percentage is21.0%;19doctors were college degree, the percentageis68.0%, and3in technical secondary school degree, the percentage is11.0%.The most common items of dental services were caries filling, pit andfissure sealing, prosthodontics, etc. Less than50.0%of dentist carry out theprojects such as orthodontic.5. The average working hours of dentists in jingxi was2475.2hours per year.An average of0.42hours per treatment needed; then we can predict111dentists,130dental nurses needed according to the populations (652,000) in Jingxi. Conclusion:Oral health services are still poor. Short of dental equipment and dentists inJingxi. The dental treatment technology in oral disease prevention and sometreatment such as tropical fluoridation still need to improve. The dentistresources in Jingxi are of serious lack; dental manpower supply and demand arenot balance; the oral treatment technology in oral disease prevention andorthodontic diagnosis still need to popularize and improve. Government shouldfocus on improving oral service capacity in rural area, improve the existing orallocal doctor’s diagnosis and treatment technology, and make full use of ownedoral health human resources. They also should expand the oral medical serviceresources, actively response national policy, and pay special attention to thehealth poverty alleviation work, and try to get the attention of the society fromall walks of life, in order to better and faster improve the ability of oral healthservices.
