Object:To investigate the effect of smoking cessation on clinical symptoms and pulmonary function of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD),help patients with COPD to realize the health hazards of smoking, and enhance their confidence on quitting smoking, and the application and prospect of Chinese medicine for the treatment of smoking cessation is discussed.Method:Smokers with COPD, a total of80cases,were made as the research object.According to individual wishes.totally80current smokers with COPD were designed into two groups of equal number:one group gave up smoking;the other group didn’t.All patients were given questionnaire survey and scores of comprehensive clinical symptom. At the end of3months,the same scores were done once again, pulmonary function was also examined, and the frequency of acute exacerbation during the observation period was also recorded.Result:The comprehensive scores of such clinical symptoms as cough.expectoration and dyspnea in the smoking cessation group decreased after3months,the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05);and compared with smoking group, the difference was also statistically significant (P<0.05).The frequency of acute exacerbation in the smoking cessation group in3months of the observation was decreased than that before the observation.the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05),and also no significant difference of the frequency in the smoking group was found after the observation (P>0.05).The indexes(FEV1,FEV1/FVC) in two group had dropped.there wasn’t significant difference than that before the observation in the smoking cessation group(P>0.05),but significant difference was found in the smoking group (P<0.05).Conelusion:Smoking cessation can improve the clinical symptoms of the patients with COPD such as cough.expectoration.and dyspnea.and reduce the frequency of acute exacerbation. To a certain extent.smoking cessation can alleviate the damage of lung function, delay further decline in lung funtion. |
