Objective:1.To learn the subjective orthodontic treatment need of7-10year-old children in Hunan Yiyang and to evaluate the objective orthodontic treatment need and its relevant subjective factors;2.To study the relationship between the severity of malocclusion and children psychological health status.Material and Method:Data were collected from155children who received oral health check in Yiyang Medical Dental Center(age ranged7to10years,51.0%female/49.0%male).The subjective orthodontic treatment need was determined with the index of orthodontic treatment need(IOTN),and the objective orthodontic treatment need and its relevant subjective factors were collected with questionnaire. Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) was used to assess the psychological health status of children.Results:1.With the DHC criterion of IOTN,32.9%of7-10year-old children in Hunan Yiyang had definite orthodontic treatment need,12.9%were borderline, and54.2%had little or no need; If malocclusion assessed by AC criterion of IOTN,17.4%children had definite treatment need,30.3%were borderline, and49.0%had little or no need.2. Among the investigate children,51%of children claimed demand for orthodontic treatment. If divided by gender,26.8%of boys wanted to undergo orthodontic treatment, and24.7%of girls did.3. Relevant factors of the children’s objective orthodontic treatment as follows:age, DHC and AC grades, having been derided, having orthodontic knowledge, academic records, self-perception about her/his teeth appearance, economic status.4. The EPQ values were not affected by age and gender.5. The DHC grades had kind of influence on E and N subscales values and did not affected P subscale value; in regard to AC grades, it had kind of influence on N subscale values and did not affected P and E subscales value.Conclusions:1.32.9%of7-10year-old children in Hunan Yiyang have an orthodontic treatment need. But AC shows kind of lighter assessment comparing with DHC.2. Approximately51%of children express demand for orthodontic treatment, more than professional judgments.3. Several personal factors have an influence on the children’s demand of orthodontic treatment need. 4. Malocclusion has an influence on children’s psychological health. Children tend to be introverts and emotional instability with Malocclusion.5. EPQ can help orthodontic doctor to know the patients’ psychological health status and her/his personality features.
