PurposesWith the development of health information technology, in particular, the increasingdemands on the knowledge and ability of health information professionals for theimplementation of the new health care reform, the education of medical informationprofessionals is particularly important. However, due to historical reasons, there is still alarge gap between domestic medical institutions and foreign countries. So, It has apositive significance to explore the meaning of medical information managementeducation, to understand the development direction of foreign countries in the field, as wellas education training objectives and curriculum. Eventually, to improve the country’seducation. This study intends to IMIA international recommendations as a template, on thebasis of a comprehensive investigation between domestic and foreign, to develop a coursesystem, which is suitable for Chinese characteristics and based on international standards,for medical information management undergraduates, so as to lay the foundation ofachieving standardization of medical information management undergraduates education.MethodsIn this study, Fist we defined the conception of the medical information management;Second we analyzed the route evolution and the frontiers fields of the medical informationmanagement by using literature statistics;third, by retrieving publications and surveying onthe website,we investigated the training mode and the curriculum of the major of theForeign medical information management and the substance of the IMIA proposal;then westudied the present situation of the domestic medical information management coursethough website survey、E-mail and interviews;and by compare of the foreign and domesticmedical information management course,we found out the difference and problem of thetwo courses.At last,based on the IMIA proposal and combined with the study of thedevelopment trend, present situation at home and abroad and the current situation of ourcountry,we proposed a course model which is fit for the undergraduate course of thedomestic medical information management. Results(1) Using CiteSpaceII mutation bursting terms get IMIA international initiativemutation degree is7.12, shows that IMIA initiative is one of the international researchhotspot in recent years, which aroused the concern of the academia since published;Domestic health information management professionals are highly identify the request ofknowledge and ability that IMIA international initiatives proposed, the above two pointscan be used as a proposition on the basis of this study.(2) Foreign medical information management education after decades of development,has formed a relatively stable system of disciplines and professional education. Andtraining target localization is clear, that is, the computer application in the field of healthcare as the core connotation of medical information management, and closely combinedwith the clinical medical practice. Foreign medical information management undergraduateeducation on the curriculum and the requirements of IMIA initiative is generally consistent.(3) Domestic medical information management medical books intelligenceprofessional education roots in the1980s, our country at present most of the colleges anduniversities of medical information management professional training objectives andcurriculum is based on the original professional library and library science, lay particularstress on traditional literature information management, with the international medicalinformatics education has the certain difference in the curriculum, the curriculum andcontent with the foreign curriculum difference is very big.(4) IMIA international initiative is dedicated to medical information personnel traininggoal in the future. Knowledge and skills of medical information management put forwardclear requirements, and for our country’s medical information management curriculum toprovide the reference.(5) Newly build curriculum system is divided into two directions, part in view of thecourse is suitable for the current should be carried out, information retrieval, the hospitalinformation system, evidence-based medicine, etc.; The other part is the current domesticalso does not have the condition to carry out, but the future may be referred to as theresearch object of the course, mainly manifested in remote medical, dental informatics,consumer/nursing/public health informatics, etc. Conclusions(1) The current medical information management undergraduate courses does notadapt to the international demand for the knowledge and ability for the medical informationtalent, the study of IMIA international initiative help locate the development direction ofthis discipline, promote the standardization of the curriculum. China should follow theinternational trend of development, develop in line with international standards for healthinformation management personnel.(2) The building in our study of undergraduate courses based on IMIA internationalstandard of medical information management model can provide the basis and startingpoint of the education reform to our country related education mechanism.(3) The Newly coueses system is divided into three subject group: one is medicalinformation management core knowledge and skills base; the second is medicine, healthand life sciences, health system organization’s knowledge and skills base; the last isinformatics/computer science, mathematics and biostatistics knowledge and skills base.We also equipe appropriate courses according to each subject group.
