Objective Oncoplastic breast surgery (OBS) is a modern conception and technique including volume displacement and volume replacement which balances the breast tumor resection and breast cosmetic effect. A new technique of oncoplastic breast surgery using laparoscopically harvested omental flap has been developed in the past ten years. We reported our experience of this new technique. Methods Patients who had desire and indications for oncoplasty underwent oncoplastic breast surgery using laparoscopically harvested omental flap. Evaluation was undertaken concerning on its feasibility, safety and cosmetic results. Results Between June2010and June2012,20patients were recruited and underwent the surgery. Nineteen cases (95%) were successful. All the patients recovered smoothly after the surgery. Mean operation time was about310(205-490) min, mean blood loss70(20-150) ml, mean hospital stay9(5-17) days. Follow up for mean21(10-34) months, two cases felt mild upper abdominal retraction, which subsided spontaneously2-3weeks later. Three cases had small necrotic nodules in the omental flap, which didn’t affect the appearance or volume of the reconstructed breast. One case suffered from local and distant recurrence, and died11months after the surgery. No abdominal bleeding, hernia, gastro-intestine perforation or surgery related infection. The cosmetic results were good. The cosmetic satisfaction was high up to94.4%and100%by surgeon and patients. Conclusion Oncoplastic breast surgery using laparoscopically harvested omental flap is a new, feasible and safe technique with minimal invasiveness and good cosmesis.
