Objective To explore the feasible ways to cultivate community nursing students and develop the graduation practice model which fit to China and meet the needs of the community health care.Methods A non-experiment descriptive study was carried out, which would be composed of literature review, semi-structured interviews, Delphi method, focus-group interviews, and questionnaire. Based on literature review, theoretical analysis and expert interview,the questionnair was developed. The15experts, who work in the fields of Nursing Education, Nursing Management and Community Nursing, enrolled in the questionnair investigation by the Delphi method. The6professionals, who were selected from the hospitals and communities purposively, were responsible for data analysis and formed the graduation practice project of undergraduate community nursing education. In order to evaluate the effect of graduation practice project, the interviews were taken to investigate the experience of internship with2007grade nurse students. For2008grade nurse students, the in-depth interview and the Experts Enquiry Questionnaires were used.Results The twice return rate of Delphi questionnaire were75%and100%, which indicated fully support of the experts for this study.15experts are from7different regions including Hong Kong, which showed a good representativeness. The result was reliable according to experts authority coefficient (Cr=0.83). The first time questionnaire investigation, the first-class target of cooperation index was0.48and the second-class target was0.18. The second time questionnaire investigation, the first-class target of cooperation index was0.44and the second-class target was0.19. All the cooperation index were statistically significant (P<0.01), which indicated that the experts’ comments had good coordination and predicting results could be taken. According to "Critical value method","dental practice" was deleted. The focus-group interview, as a supplement for Delphi method, made the research results more specific and practical. The results of research were used in grade2007and2008community nursing students and the effectiveness evaluation was obtained.Conclusions The study developed a preliminary graduation practice project for undergraduate community nursing students, which included practice departments, weeks, and practice syllabus. This project had been applied to two years’ community nursing students, and tested the operability. This research is an applied and exploratory study in community nursing education. Establishing feasible clinical practice project and continuously improving in practice could not only cultivate high-level community nursing professionals, but also satisfy the increasing demands of community nursing in China.
