ObjectiveThis is a retrospective study about Chinese retired military veterans from eightmilitary retired cadres sanitarium of Shanghai who died in Changhai hospital, it describesthe distribution of health-related factors before their death, causes of death, life span andrelated factors. The research will provide a reference for military retired cadres of healthguidance about disease control and prevention.Material and methodsBased on the retrospective study of March1985to January2013include all retiredcadres died in Changhai hospital. People in eight retired cadres sanitarium were taken intoour research their families has been given a survey. The survey included demographic data,lifestyle and past suffering chronic non-infectious disease treatment and compliance. wehave got access to the death medical record and death registration form to get died age andcause of death.Results1. The health determinants and prevalence in the military retired cadre cohort:(1) Ingeneral: the average age of172responders in the survey was79.39±7.30and age variedfrom59to98.(2) Compared with the baseline data, the levels of white blood cell(WBC),fasting Plasma glucose(FPG), serum creatinine(Scr), blood urea(BU), serum total bilirubinincreased significantly(P<0.05), red blood cell(RBC), hemoglobin, totalprotein(TP), albumin(Alb), A/G decreased significantly (P <0.05).2. The cause of death in the cohort:(1) the five leading causes of death were tumor(42.4%), CHD (12.8%), COPD (8.7%), cerebral infarction (8.1%) and diabetes (7.6%).The five leading causes of death were lung cancer (35.6%), pancreatic cancer (9.6%),colorectal cancer and gastric cancer (both8.2%), prostate cancer and liver cancer (both5.5%), lymphoma and multiple myeloma (both4.1%).(2)≤69old years: the top threecauses of death were tumor (41.2%), cerebral hemorrhage (17.6%), the CHD (11.8%); thesequence of the tumor before three, respectively lung cancer (71.4%), pancreatic cancer(14.3%), colon cancer (14.3%).(3)70-79old years: before the constituent ratios of thethree causes of death were tumor (44.4%), CHD (18.5%) and DM (9.3%); tumor line to four, lung cancer (29.2%), prostate cancer (16.7%), colon cancer and liver cancer (12.5%).(4)80-89old years: constituent ratios of the top five causes of death were cancer (41.1%),cerebral infarction, CHD and COPD (11.1%), DM (7.8%); tumor line to top three, lungcancer (37.8%), colorectal cancer (16.2%), lymphoma (8.1%).(5)≥90old years: beforetwo death constitute respectively than tumor (45.5%), hypertension (18.2%); tumor line totop three were gastric cancer (60.0%), pancreatic cancer (20.0%) and bile duct cell cancer(20.0%).3. Univariate analysis:(1) hypertension, cerebral infarction and benign prostatichyperplasia were risk factors of life span.(2) exercise, milk intaking were the protectivefactors.ConclusionsLung cancer is the most primary tumor in the elderly patients.And cardiovascular andcerebrovascular diseases are also the main causes of death in hospitalized elderly patients.So we should continue to strengthen the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular andcerebrovascular diseases and cancer.
