As the fierceness of market competition increases, companies are under evergreater internal and external pressure. In order to lower cost and shorten supply periodwhile providing high-quality product and service, managers are becomingincreasingly concerned with the fusion of “Lean Speed” and “Six Sigma Quality”—“Lean Six Sigma”. The provision of better quality products over competitors, alongwith better target of customers’ demands and high customers’ satisfaction and loyaltyis achieved through continuous improvement, decreased capital investment, increasedefficiency and market responsiveness, and inimitable model by the company adoptingLean Six Sigma, which increases company’s competitiveness and financial returns.However, successful examples are numbered. How to integrate “Chinesecharacteristics” with Lean Six Sigma is a challenge facing many Chinese companies.Based on research of overseas literatures, this thesis elucidates the origin,development, characteristics, method and application of Six Sigma management. Thepurpose of this research is to illustrate the application and success of Lean Six Sigmaand related tools under the framework of DMAIC in company S. First, the thesis,introduces the theoretic framework or Lean Six Sigma, and then discusses thefundamental concept and steps of Lean Production and Six Sigma DMAIC system inthe following chapters. Its applications are also discussed. The adoption and use ofthese methods not only improves production procedures and customers’satisfaction,but also has a positive impact of employees and company’s financial reports. Foremployees, they can more smoothly execute and abide by production rules, which inturn improve their participation rate, and brings about higher productivity rate; fromthe financial perspective, lower maintenance rate and shorter period of machine halt,shorter production period, and high product pass rate inevitably result in betterfinancial returns. In a nutshell, the good use Lean Six Sigma is very important tocompanies.The author brings forward the concept and framework of Lean Six Sigma andsummarizes the application of Lean Six Sigma under the framework of DMAIC andlessons it serves for Chinese companies of various sizes.
