Study On Foxconn OEM Manufacture Test Improvement

Foxconn Technology Group is a manufacturer specialized in computers,communications, consumer electronics, car components, access, digital content andother related industrial electronic. From raw material procurement, transportation,customs, receipt, inspection to warehousing, Foxconn runs it all. Foxconn evenmanufactures electronic components, semi-finished products and finished goods. Italso runs PCBA board test, assembly and systems testing. Foxconn also doesproduction of hardware to product firmware burning and software upgrade, the wholecomplete process. Foxconn is the king of OEM. It has a wealth of experience inelectronics manufacturing. However, it still encountered some problems during theproduction and testing process for Cisco Systems products.After a deep research, investigation and analysis on the Cisco product linesituation, it is found that the main problems in the production processes are: theproduction process is complex, difficult products, too many engineering change,lengthy cycle time, changing demands, too many WIP, short product life cycle etc.Testing shows the main problems are: testing system is complex, too many testsoftware, too many test hardware, low test yield, too many failed products etc.The thesis uses the theory of Lean Production, Six Sigma method, IE tools,quality control tools etc. on Foxconn OEM Cisco products production and testingissues. It conducts a series of improvements, including promotion of new productsand new technology, application of flexible manufacturing and test, improvement oftest method and process, improvement of product quality, supply chain optimizationetc. These improvements achieve significant results, including production efficiencyimprovement, product yield enhancement, reduction of inventory, managementimprovement etc. All these are much help for Foxconn’s next step development. Itwould let Foxconn going from good to excellent enterprise.
