Network technology is developing rapidly, and it has brought more and more conveniences to people for the exchange of information. The wireless sensor network has a very broad application prospects in the fields of scientific research, environmental monitoring, medical care, military scouting and daily life. This is one of a new frontier hot research fields. The ZigBee technology as a wireless communication standard is becoming more and more maturing in the fields of the theoretical and applied research, and it has a lot of advantages, such as self-organizing, low-complexity, low-power, low-cost and short-range and bidirectional transmission and etc, and these advantages perfectly combine the ZigBee technology and the wireless sensor network. The Internet is now the widest coverage network, but its perception of the physical world is weak. If people can through the Internet access the data which collected by the wireless sensor network, and then the information of the physical world can be easily and cheaply transmit to every corner of the world. In the light of the heterogeneous network communication protocol integration, this paper designs and implements an embedded wireless sensor network gateway by using the transport layer gateway thinking based on the basis of analysis of existing network access methods. In this paper, we have built a new embedded wireless gateway using the OMAP3530process which kernel based on the ARM Cortex-A8, and it can interconnect the wireless sensor networks and the Internet. The hardware connection was designed according to the OMAP3530processor features. According to the self-built hardware platform, this paper detailed described the WinCE system customization and porting processes, and detailed analyzed the topology of the wireless sensor network and the IEEE802.15.4protocol and the characteristics of ZigBee technology as well as researched the ZigBee network hierarchy. The applications were developed by using the Z-Stack protocol platform as well as using the ZigBee technology characteristics. The gateway is responsible for converting the heterogeneous network communications protocol and data processing, and it is divided into the wireless transmission modules and Ethernet modules. The wireless modules equipped with a wireless chip of TI’s CC2530connecting to the wireless sensor network for collecting the data information from the sensor nodes. The Ethernet module with a100M of RTL8139Ethernet controller chip is responsible for connecting to the Internet network monitoring center. In order to test and verify the performance of the gateway system, in this paper, we have researched and improved the TI’s Z-Stack protocol, designed and implemented the wireless sensor node modules, given the key designing-features of the hardware and software of the nodes. The experimental results showing that:the new gateway system is running stable, secure and reliable data transmission. After flexibly to extend node, through simple improvements, people can be easily develop the actual application products. By embedded the dedicated sensor nodes in a variety of terminals, instrumentation and intelligent devices, adding to certain application software, people can conveniently develop a temperature control system as well as security systems.
