With the rapid development of the information industry, people’s life has changed greatly. However, the contradiction between information industry and the society and the environment is increasingly clear: information industry has huge energy consumption, all kinds of communication and network equipment brought great pollution. In the wave of the global low carbon economy, people begin to pay more attention to the energy saving of information industry, and put forward the energy management concept etc. The basic objective of energy management is operating communication networks and other equipment with minimal amount of energy, while maintaining a certain level of service. An important aspect of energy management is to monitor the energy consumption of the network equipment, so as to investigate power saving potential, evaluate the effectiveness of energy saving policies and measures, derive, implement and test power management strategies etc.This paper first introduces the current research status of energy management and the key technology, researches the present situation of network management agent and outlines the simple network management protocol’s basic knowledge. Then, in order to assist the computer system’s energy consumption monitoring, we design one kind of system power model based on multiple linear regressions. Our model combines two kinds of parameters:the system resource utilization and hardware performance counters. Based on the power model we created, we can accurately predict the power consumption of the system without the help of the measurement equipment. So it has good practical significance.At the same time, this paper designs and implements the network energy monitoring system agent, which can collect the energy consumption information of measuring equipment and respond to the data request of the manager, making it to monitor the network energy consumption relevant information.Finally, the last chapter summarizes the whole thesis’work, the current system’s shortcomings and the future work. My work and achievements are also summarized.
