In today’s society, mass media has penetrated every aspect of people’s lives, it has bothpositive affect and negative affect in terms of ideological and political education inuniversities. It has become a major issue to be resolved to how to adapt to the needs of massmedia, and accommodate ideological and political education in universities in the newsituation. The article studies ideological and political education in universities in this context.As the forefront of ideological and political education of college students, Universitiesshould understanding the mass media fully, it can not only enrich the theory of ideologicaland political education in universities, but also take the ideological and political education inuniversities full advantage of mass media by new form, and it forms the interaction betweenthe two, in order to accomplish the task of ideological and political education in universitiesbetter. Therefore, it has important significance to study the influence and countermeasures ofthe mass media on the ideological and political education in universities.The article proceeds from the related concepts of the mass media and ideological andpolitical education in universities, mass media has two meanings, it is not only thecommunication tools, but also including the agencies of information dissemination, the massmedia has extensive sex, efficient sex, oriented sex, open sex, virtual sex and interaction, sixcharacteristics. So it has five functions, such as spread information, environmental monitoring,social coordination, education and entertainment. Ideological and political education inuniversities means that teachers in universities make use of certain ideas, political views andethics, which is imposed to university students purposefully, to help forming Ideology andmorality of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and thus more clearly formulates the maintask of the ideological and political education. In addition, the article analyzes the Westernmass media control theory, Marx mass media theory and the Communist Party of China MassMedia theory, which provide a strong theoretical support for the study of the influence andcountermeasures of the mass media on the ideological and political education in universities.The mass media had positive and negative influence on the ideological and politicaleducation in universities. On the positive effects, the mass media has created a newenvironment of the ideological and political education in universities; created a wealth of content and new ways for ideological and political education in universities, and enhanced theeffect. For the negative effects, mass media had a negative impact to worldview, outlook onlife and values, cognitive, and physical and mental health of college students; interfered withthe contents of the ideological and political education in universities; affected college studentsto feedback timely on the ideological and political education in universities in the teachingprocess.There are many reasons for the negative impact of mass media for ideological andpolitical education in universities. From the perspective of the mass media itself, the main isthe absence of supervisory intensity, and the control of technology itself is adverse, whichresults in poor information content, causes to interfere with ideological and political educationin universities, mass media, some of the misguided affects the thinking and behavior ofcollege students; University level, ideological education system is not perfect and theconstruction of the campus media is imperfect, couple with the lack of media literacyeducation, make their own deal with mass media impaction and can not give a strong response;With the development of mass media, ideological and political education University teachersdue to the deviation of the positioning of their own role, educators are not the authority ofknowledge again, their own media literacy also needs to improve; Finally, from the level ofcollege students, college students due to the characteristics of their own two sides and mediaawareness of critical lack of capacity, they rely on mass media, these make them notunderstand and use the mass media scientifically.For the reasons of the mass media having negative impact on the Ideological andPolitical Education in universities, the paper presents four coping strategies. Firstly, thegovernment should accelerate legislation speed, and improve the administrative supervisionof the mass media, besides, the government should increase the economic input and technicalcontrol of the construction of college campus media, mass media practitioners have toconsciously improve the professional ethics, so that the mass media plays the correctorientation. Secondly, that is improving the ideological and political education Universitysystem which are perfect management system, the form of system and feedback system, andincreasing the construction of the campus media, building its own consideration, what’s more,it should consider the development needs of college students, which makes campus media different characteristics, and complements each other to form a network platform of thenational ideological and political education in universities. According to the media literacyeducation, it should combine curriculum theory and practice. Thirdly, the ideological andpolitical education teachers in university have to reposition their roles, and form teachingpartnerships with students. They can use sensible charm to impress students and improveideological and political quality and mass media literacy. Improving their mass media literacyis not only a technical level, but also reflects the level of knowledge. Fourth, college studentsneed to enhance their own information literacy competency, they can study courses and readbooks to enhance their own ability to filter media information, and access media informationto implement their ideological and political education, students also put ideological andpolitical education in the mass media, and educate others, in order to improve theircapabilities of using the media information to develop good values and behavior, besides,college students need correct understanding of the mass media and broaden their ownhorizons, thereby reducing the dependence on the mass media, improve personality, enhancetheir psychological strike capability, defense against bad information of mass media.
