Objective:This thesis did some research on the status of undergraduate nurses’career planning. Based on this investigation, some factors influencing their career planning were found. The objective of this thesis was to lay the foundation for establishing the guiding system of undergraduate nurses’career planning.Method:After testing the reliability and validity of the questionnaire, the survey on the status of undergraduate nurses’career planning was carried out by sampling among370undergraduate students from Grade2007to2011, who majored in nursing science in the nursing colleges of medical universities in Shandong Province. The questionnaire consisted of three parts:general information questionnaire, undergraduate nurses’career planning questionnaire, investigation into the degree of satisfaction with nursing major. The thesis examed these data carefully through statistic analysis with the help of SPSS13.0soft ware program, ranging from descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA to multiple linear regression analysis.Results:1. The common factor contribution extracted from the factor analysis of the survey of undergraduate nurses’career planning reached58%. The load value of each entry was all more than0.4with good construct validity. The reliability of the questionnaire was0.93and the retest reliability was0.82with good cross-temporal constancy.2. The overall mark related to the career planning of the undergraduate nurses was129.69±15.85. The average marks in its six dimensions were as follows: self-cognition3.89±0.51, occupational exploration3.76±0.62, objective design3.53±0.74, action plan3.68±0.46, interpersonal relation3.68±0.69, and feedback correction3.52±0.72. The highest mark existed in the aspect of self-cognition, and the lowest one in the aspect of feedback correction.3. Sociology of Population of the undergraduate nurses:There was no difference in the group of career planning level about gender, origin, the only child or not, the parents’academic background and work experience as well as the family economic conditions (P>0.05). But the difference existed in the following group, e.g. The level of career planning of those who take initiative to contact the hospitals for practice, considered the overall satisfaction degree of the nursing, ever served as student leaders, those whose marks ranked top30%,5-year students, those who didn’t have relative courses on career planning, whose occupation directly related to the nursing and further study, whose career standards mainly concerned prestige factors is higher than those who didn’t take initiative to contact the hospitals for practice, were discontent with the nursing, didn’t serve as the student leaders, those whose marks ranked bottom30%, students of other grades, who have studied the relative courses on career planning, whose occupation dealt with other fields, whose career standards mainly concerned security and development factors (P<0.05)4.Through the regression analysis of the score of the nursing undergraduates’ occupational planning and the scores of different parts, there were seven influential factors, such as better satisfaction with the nursing major, the mother’s career as a farmer, being the fifth graders, dissatisfaction with the nursing major, whether being active or not for the internship, insurance being the priority for choosing a career and whether being student cadres (R2=22.5%). The influential factors of the self-knowledge included better satisfaction with the nursing major, the mother’s career as a farmer, being interested in the nursing career, being the fifth graders, insurance being the priority for choosing a career, being a junior and whether being student cadres (R2=16.4%). The influential factors of the career exploration were better satisfaction with the nursing major, being the fifth graders, being interested in the nursing career, whether being active or not for the internship (R2=13.0%). The influential factors of the career goal were better satisfaction with the nursing major, being the fifth graders, poor family financial conditions, dissatisfaction with the nursing major, insurance being the priority for choosing career and whether being student cadres (R2=19.9%). The influential factors of the interpersonal relationship were better satisfaction with the nursing major, being the fifth graders, whether being student cadres, and whether being active or not for the internship (R2=11.7%). And finally the influential factors of the feedback correction included the mother’s career as private owner, being the fifth graders, better satisfaction with the nursing major and the mother being a junior high school graduate.Conclusion:1.The questionnaire about the nursing undergraduates’occupational planning had good credit and efficacy, which can be used to evaluate their current occupational planning condition.2.The score of nursing undergraduates’occupational planning and the scores of different parts were at the medium level, from which we should enhance the interference with those students who were juniors, never working as the student cadres, dissatisfied with the nursing major, inactive for the internship and those with poor academic achievements to improve their occupational planning level.3.About all the predictors of the general condition of the nursing undergraduates’ occupational planning-satisfaction with the nursing major, whether being active or not for the internship, whether being student cadres, the mother’s career, and grades, among which satisfaction with the nursing major and the grades are two of the six different parts. In addition, the predictors of the self-knowledge included the mother’s career, the reason for being a nurse as a career, the priority for choosing a career and whether being student cadres; the predictors of the career exploration included the reason for being a nurse as a career and whether being active for the internship; the predictors of the career goal included the priority for choosing a career and the mother’s literacy level; the predictors of their plan included the father’s literacy level, the family’s financial conditions, the priority for choosing a career and whether being student cadres; the predictors of the interpersonal relationship included whether being student cadres and whether being active for the internship and the predictors of the feedback correction included the mother’s career and the mother’s literacy level. All of these factors suggested that the government and the society should take corresponding measures to increase the nurses’social status. And at the same time, colleges and universities should pay more attention to the professional and Ideological Education, increased the nursing undergraduates’professional identity, their satisfaction with their majors. According to different graders’psychological characters and career needs, they should open a occupational planning course with diverse contents and formats. The social practices should be given priority and colleges and universities direct them to take an active part in them. The system could give undergraduates more chances to be student cadres. More attention should also be given to the family background, especially the mother’s influence on their occupational planning. Still colleges and universities should learn the undergraduates’ living background to offer career instruction with individual characters.
