Purpose:This paper is to study the treatment of traditional Chinese medical empirical formula called Lianpu Drink and acupuncture combined with western medicine on Spleen-stomach Damp-heat Type of Functional Dyspepsia (FD), and to offer a comprehensive evaluation on the therapeutic effect of this integrative medical treatment.Methods:120cases of FD patients were chose from both inpatient and outpatient department of Wuhan Integrative Medicine Hospital among September2010to October2011, and all the cases satisfied the Standards of Verification on the efficacy of Functional Dyspepsia Treatment by Traditional Chinese Medicine from the verification standards of the Eleventh-five’s stomach-spleen and epigastria disease that set by State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, namely, the patients agree with Rome Ⅲ standard and all suffered from Spleen-stomach Damp-heat type of FD.The patients were divided into3groups randomly:western medicine treatment group, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acupuncture treatment group, and Chinese and western integrative treatment group. Each group contains40persons. The first group was treated with the medicine below:Omeprazole enteric-coated tablets (from Shandong New Era Pharmaceutical Company) with10mg a time and2times a day; Mosapride dispersible tablets (provided by Kanghong Pharmaceutical Plant) with5mg a time30min before meals and3times a day. The second group was given a dose of Lianpu Drink with2times a day, and treated with acupuncture on each acupoint of Neiguan, Zusanli and Zhongwan with20min a day. The third group was treated with western medicine combined with traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. The treatments lasted for four weeks, and one month after the experiments, we count the statistical recurrence rate. Through questionnaires, we analyzed and summarized the therapeutic effect of each method in each group, including the clinical efficiency, the quantitative scores of TCM symptoms and the improvement in cardinal symptoms, and offered the safety evaluation at the same time.We use SPSS16.0software for statistical analysis. Two-sides test was adopt in our statistically significant inspection with P≤0.05or P≤0.01as the criterion by judging the significant differences.Results1. In the aspect of clinical efficacy:After four weeks’ treatment, the effective rate was70%for the first group,40%for the second group, and75%for the third group. The second group is significantly different from the first and third group (p<0.05).2. In the aspect of the quantitative scores of TCM symptoms: There is no significant difference among the three groups before treatment (P>0.05); The quantitative scores from the groups after treatment showed statistically significantly difference from the groups before treatment (P<0.01); Three groups are statistically significantly different from each other after treatment (P<0.05).3. In the aspect of improvement in cardinal symptoms:the cardinal symptoms in three groups before treatment were not significantly different (P>0.05); The cardinal symptom improvement of three groups were significantly different (P<0.01) between the situations before treatment and after treatment; Regard to the treatment of epigastric burning sensation, the efficacy of the first and third group is significantly superior to that of the second group with a significant difference (p<0.05), while the first group and the third group shows no significant difference (P>0.05); For the efficacy of the symptoms of upper abdominal pain, postprandial fullness, early satiety, the third group is significantly different from the first and second group (p<0.05), indicating that the third group showed obvious advantages to cure these symptoms.4. In the aspect of recurrence rate, the efficacy of the third group is obviously better than that of the first and second group with significant difference (P<0.01).ConclusionsBoth pure western medicine (the first group) and traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture treatment (the second group) showed effective therapy on the Spleen-stomach Damp-heat Type of FD, however, the Chinese and western integrative treatment (the third group) demonstrate better efficacy. In the aspect of clinical efficacy, there is no significant difference between the first and the third group, but in the aspects of the quantitative scores of TCM symptoms and cardinal symptoms, the efficacy in the third group showed obvious superiority compared to the other two groups. The recurrence rates collected after one month also confirmed that the Chinese and western integrative treatment has great advantages. As a result, on curing the Spleen-stomach Damp-heat Type of FD, western medicine shows good efficacy in controlling the clinical symptoms, but Chinese and western integrative treatment can improve the whole efficacy, the symptomatic curative efficacy and the cardinal symptom efficacy at the same time with low adverse effect and high safety, which also can control the forward symptoms and deserves more study and spread in clinical care.
