Objectives This study aims to describe the common disease spectrum and current statusof reproductive tract infection among rural married women of reproductive age inhuainan city of Anhui, to understand the characteristic and related factors on the womenwith RTI, to explore the seeking behavior and contributing factors on the women withRTI symptom, to evaluate the allocation of resources and service capacity of FamilyPlanning Commissions which the sample got service from. Methods A multistage probability sampling method was used to identify arepresentative sample of3193married women aged18-49years. All participants wereprovided informed consents. Work in each village began with listing the residences whowe selected by the local interviewers, and then the listed residences got a questionnaireinterview and gynecological examination. Investigations and gynecologicalexaminations were conducted by two steps: converging at the clinics at first, thenvisiting households for those not coming to clinics. The design of the investigation plan has checked by the epidemiology, gynecology and obstetrics experts, and has carried onthe pre-experiment. The diagnosis and classification standard of RTI was according toICD-9and "Obstetrics and gynecology"(the sixth edition). We set up the quantitative database using Epi Data3.1after checking and codingquestionnaires. The database was analyzed using spss12.0. Chi-squared test and logisticregression analysis were used for analysis in the study. In all tests, the level ofsignificance was set up at P <0.05.Results2246(70.3%) women among our samples (3193women) had RTI,967(30.3%)women had two RTIs and187(5.9%) women had at least three RTIs. The five mostfrequent RTIs are chronic cervicitis (66.3%), bacterial vaginosis (11.0%), colpitismycotica(2.7%), trichomonas vaginitis(1.2%), pelvic inflammatory disease(0.6%).Multivariate analysis showed that yearly income, dysmenorrheal, numbers ofdelivery, and interval of bathing in winter, were all related to RTIs in our samples. The analysis indicated that more numbers of delivery (OR=1.263,95%CI:1.081-1.476), longer interval of bathing in winter (OR=1.479,95%CI:1.244-1.417), arerisk factors for RTIs. On the contrary, women who had higher income (OR=0.848,95%CI:0.755-0.953) were less likely to have RTIs.Conclusions RTIs were prevalent among rural married women of childbearing age inHuainan city of Anhui Province, but the rate of seeing doctor was low, and it wasaffected by multi-factor. Relevant people and departments should pay more attention, and carry out health education and gynecological census to decrease the rate of RTIs.
