Objective:To develop a set of systematic scales about influence factors of incontinent women’s help-seeking intention; Based on the theory of planned behavior(TPB), to construct the model of incontinent women’s help-seeking intention using structural equation modeling. Furthermore, strategies to improve the situation of help seeking among incontinent women are suggested based on the model. Methods:The convenient sample of395women with urinary incontinence in three communities of Jinan city was studied. The self-designed Incontinent Women’s Help-seeking Attitude Scale, the revised Social Impact Scale, and the self-designed Incontinent Women’s Coping Efficacy Scale were used to collect data in the study. SPSS13.0was used for statistical analysis, and data were analyzed by Descriptive statistic and Reliability analysis. Validity of the scales and Structural Equation Modeling were analyzed by AMOS19.0.Results:1. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the Incontinent Women’s Help-seeking Attitude Scale was0.808, and the test-retest reliability was0.872. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the Social Impact Scale was0.856, and the test-retest reliability was0.919. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the three subscales(Social Isolation, Social Rejection, and Internalized Shame) were0.796,0.825, and0.894respectively. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the Incontinent Women’s Coping Efficacy Scale was0.696, and the test-retest reliability was0.761. The results of Confirmatory Factor Analysis indicated that factor loading of most of the items were more than0.5except for a few ones. 2. The model built was evaluated by some important fit indices. Its X2/df, GFI, AGFI, NFI, IFI, CFI, and RMSEA were3.318,0.913,0.870,0.870,0.906,0.904and0.077respectively.3. The three main paths of the model were as follows:Incontinent Women’s Help-seeking Attitudeâ†'Help-seeking Intention, Social Impactâ†'Help-seeking Intention, and Coping Efficacyâ†'Help-seeking Intention. The standardized coefficients of their total effects on Help-seeking Intention were0.276(P>0.05),0.445(P<0.05), and-0.322(P<0.05) respectively.Conclusion:1. All the three scales mentioned above are reliable and valid in the study.2. As a whole, the model built is fit well, and the theoretical model proposed is mainly satisfied with the data. That is to say, the model built in the study is acceptable.3. The model corroborates the application of TPB in the field of incontinent women’s help-seeking behavior. Social impact perceived by the incontinent women in community has a positive effect on their help-seeking intention, and incontinent women’s coping efficacy has a negative effect on their help-seeking intention. Incontinent women’s help-seeking attitude has no significant effect on their help-seeking intention in the study.
