| ObjectiveThe present study was conducted to analyse the demographic characteristics of HIV/AIDS patients in high prevalence areas of AIDS in Henan, assess their condition of the social support, discuss the social support’ influence factors from each domain and overall situation and provide a basis for further policy development.MethodA cross-sectional study was conducted in four counties in Henan province. Two towns were selected in each county. Random sampling was done among persons who were>18year of age with HIV-infected and patients.We calculated the mean score of each domain and the overall social support using Mean±Standard Deviation and make them comparison with norm of social support of the ten cities. T test, one-way ANOVA and correlative analysis were used to single factor analysis. On the basis of single factor analysis, step wise multivariate linear regression models were constructed to evaluate the independent contribution of variables to social support.ResultThe age of146participants ranged from24to66, the mean and standard deviation of their age was48.73±7.59. The male is70, accounting for47.9%, the female is76, accounting for52.1%, the men and women ratio is0.91:1. Married people are in the majority, accounting for76.0%. The result of the survey on level of education showed the participated with educational level at primary school level and below is were in the majority and the ratio of the participated with educational level at primary school level is73.3%.The mean and standard deviation of total social support of HIV/AIDS patients is33.56±6.86. The mean and standard deviation of Objective social support is7.56± 2.38. The mean and standard deviation of subjective social support is20.63±7.56. The mean and standard deviation of the utility of social support is5.36±1.98. The social support of HIV/AIDS patients in three domains and the whole were significantly lower than the norm group of the ten cities.The results of multivariate analysis shows marital status, Disease stage, treatment status, depression status, discrimination status, physical condition, family income is the key factors.ConclusionHIV/AIDS patients were concentrated in the area of slow economic development and lived in poverty. The level of social support of HIV/AIDS patients is low. Most of them infect HIV virus since90decade of past century, is in the later stage of AIDS, and their social support is poor. We need establish long-term social care support mechanism relying on the family and neighbors. To improve psychological status of patients and their social support degree, we should combine effectively aid care and propaganda education, psychological consult, Propaganda against discrimination and domestic social support. |
